The new regions of the electoral playing field
These are the regions on the map this morning:

Deep Blue: Northeast and Pacific Coast (what R's call "not the real America")
Still Basically Blue: Midwest
The New Blue: Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Virginia, Ohio
The New Battleground: Florida, North Carolina, Indiana, Montana, maybe Georgia.
Still Red in spite of some early hopes: North Dakota on down to Texas.
Revealed Racist Red: Arkansas, Louisiana, Tennessee West Virginia.
Still Basically Red: The Old South and the Sparse West.

The New Blue has to be welcomed within the coalition to make sure it stays there. The next fight is for the New Battleground (where we won some and lost some, but it will be just as hard next time). We're not ready to challenge seriously in the still red. And the Republicans extremism has paid off in big wins among the Revealed Racists, which are lining up with the Old South.
