Minnesota.

Thanks for returning Bush sucking Coleman and Bachmann back to embarrass you all.

Idiots.

1. There will be a recount! Franken could pull this off..... keep hope alive!
Bachmann on the other hand.... er... I guess we need a couple rapid Republicans to remind Americans how awful the GOP is?

20. I think the margin is too great. Franken will close, but still lose by a couple of hundred votes.
See Florida, 2000.

5. *shrug* Next time let us pick our own goddamn candidates,
Edited on Wed Nov-05-08 11:20 AM by Occam Bandage
instead of sending comedians flush with out-of-state cash to steamroll the primary process. Everyone in the DFL knew Franken was a disaster waiting to happen.

And don't *think* of blaming MN for Bachmann. That would be like blaming IL for Hastert. Many states have a nutty district or two.

19. I never really understood the Franken candidacy
I know he's on our side and all, but he never really struck me as someone that you could rally around and take up the cause. Maybe I'm wrong, but he just never really seemed to be a serious candidate as an outsider looking in.

15. Don't be ridiculous.
Minnesota still has Senator Amy Klobuchar.

That third party candidate Barkley really threw a fly into the ointment in the Franken/Coleman race.

And Minnesota voted overwhelmingly for President-elect Obama.

23. Smallest margin for Obama of any blue state.
Even purple states New Hampshire and Pennsylvania had better margins of victory for Obama. So Minnesota isn't exactly looking spectacular today. You can bet Republicans are going to go after Minnesota in a big way in 2012.

26. 54% for Obama still isn't anything to be ashamed of.
Racism is, unfortunately, alive and well in Minnesota, and my unofficial guess is that that issue suppressed some of the vote there for Obama.

I have every confidence that Minnesota will remain blue in presidential races. Minnesota is my state, and if I have to move back there and kick some ass myself, I will. :D

It's the home of the DFL party, and that legacy will not go down easily.

The bitterest pill for me, of course, is Norm Coleman continuing to sit in Paul Wellstone's rightful seat.

8. I'm gonna nominate Kentucky
Poor ass, backward state that keeps sending Mitch McFacist back to the Senate and overwhelming voted for McCain. Tons of people there are unemployed, on "the draw," and have no way out.

I grew up there, and I'm ashamed at how they've regressed.

A couple of punches.

17. "At least" they went blue for Obama? Minnesota ALWAYS votes Dem for president!
Always.

Jesse Ventura was elected governor in a three-way race against Norm Coleman and Skip Humphrey. Coleman was largely disliked and Humphrey was seen as ineffectual. No candidate got anywhere near 50% of the vote, so it's a little disingenuous to blame the whole state for Governor Ventura.

27. I don't believe it - looks more like Rove's machine counting to prevent a filibuster proof senate.
It would have been the ONLY focus going into election day, knowing they couldn't risk getting caught stealing presidency again.
