9. The fundies hate Harry Potter because MAGIC is used in the story... never mind that
it's FICTION! I think a lot of fundies can barely discern the difference between fiction and non-fiction. Like when they watch Fox News. :^)

21. I thought they hate Harry Potter because of a lack of mentions of God
I've read a news story a few years ago about priests and other super religious people who wanted Harry Potter books banned in schools and libraries that they believed the book taught a Wiccan religious point of view, with some saying it taught a godless view.

34. They object because they really believe in magic
To them its not fiction. Haven't you heard the way they pray? Its like they are invoking the name of god for their own desires. Like they believe there is some 'godforce' power that they can tap into like its a magical force; like they are casting an actual spell.

My immediate family are fundies and while we have a no-god-talk policy, sometimes they get off a story or two before I hit my limit. My parents actually believe my dad gets good parking spots because he prayed for it and that my sister had a headache go away due to a "healing wind" (their words) from the tv when a fundie program was on.

5. Oh yeah... they hate Harry Potter, don't they?
Just one more sign that they are the ones who are the radicals and the fringe, rather than the mainstream. The fundies have been pushing a tyranny of the minority while Obama is going for the plurality that the Founding Fathers wanted rather than a simple tyranny of the majority.

And deep down, in the end, Malfoy had a good speck hiding somewhere in his heart.

31. Palin most certainly is Umbridge but I don't consider McCain Voldemort
I don't think McCain is evil at heart... just awfully misguided. Palin on the other hand... there is something really unsettling inside of her... and it is NOT something Christian.

25. why is it that they (fundies) all seem to think HP is satanic, and yet,
Edited on Wed Oct-29-08 08:39 PM by DisgustipatedinCA
The Lord of the Rings books are infallible? I've seen this from more than one fundagelical, and I don't get it. Of course, I live in a semi-rational world and I don't know that these types can be measured on the same scale.

29. My neighbor told her kids I was a bad mother for allowing my kids to read Harry Potter.
They've had a McCain sign in their yard for quite a while. They also supported Man-on-Dog Santorum. Those folks have been wandering in the desert for many years.
