Looks like right-wingers around here are REALLY freaking out. Some choice bits:

“This plumber is no ordinary Joe. Joe Wurzelbacher, aka Joe the Plumber, has been extraordinarily successful in the plumbing business. He soon plans to earn a net profit (after subtracting all of his business expenses) in excess of $250,000 per year. Like that other guy, Joe the CEO, Joe the Plumber would prefer to pay no taxes at all. But Barack Obama has proposed that persons earning a net income of more than $250,000 per year should pay a higher rate of taxes on income they receive in excess of $250,000. John McCain asks: why would Obama raise taxes on successful people like Joe the Plumber? No one should have to pay taxes at all. If we agree to fund federal programs (a post office and an army, for example) shouldn’t the funding come from people who can afford it? Barack Obama would raise taxes on successful people in order to reduce the tax burden on ordinary Joes.”

-- Jeff of Parkesburg

“Barack Obama wants to spread the wealth around. From each according to his ability and to each according to his needs is the basis of socialism. The dictator for the proletariat was Karl Marx. Communism eventually failed in the Soviet Union. Does Obama want to repeat history and make us all suffer? Those were his words, ‘If you pay no taxes you have nothing to lose except your future.’ If you are a current taxpayer you would lose immediately from Obama’s transfer of wealth.”

-- Bob of Thorndale

“There would be no greater gift than to not have Barack Obama elected president of the United States. Look at who he aligned himself with for many years -- a hateful minister and a self-proclaimed hater of America. If you plan to vote for Obama, then prepare yourself for the consequences. He is not the man that he would like you to believe he is.”

-- Original Nick of Coatesville

“I have noticed something quite odd. When Barack Obama’s numbers are up, the value of my nest egg goes down, and vice versa.”

-- Lou of Coatesville

“I fear that if Obama is elected president, this great country of ours will not outlast his presidency.”

-- Leonard of Yeadon

2. If these wingnuts think Iraq is so necessary to our existence
they should be demanding to have their taxes raised, even if they are only making 25K. Assholes. Who do they beileve should pay for the war, the poor?

And they "penalizing the successful" bullshit is just stupid. If you're making that much, why should higher taxes harm you so much? How are the poor and the middle class supposed to feel sorry for the rich and "successful?" And these jerks are not necessarily deserving of their "success." It may be just luck or even underhandedness.

And their overdramatizing about this country not surviving. They are so stupid.

4. They are scared to death
All these wingnut commentators, talk show hosts, etc. are terrified of an Obama win. That's why they are coming out of the woodwork with their wacked-out ramblings.

7. Crazy talk. They have been marinating in Fox "News" way too long.
People like this get everything they "know" from Fox "News" (and Limbaugh, Hannity, etc.) and as a result most of what they "know" is dead wrong. But try telling them that!

8. "No one should have to pay taxes at all."
That's more radical than anything coming out of the far left.

Moderate people with half a brain read that and dismiss the rest.
(I hope)

10. Those letters read like the ones in our local paper. They are so full of mis-information
that it would be funny, but the level of hatred that underlies some of these letter is really sobering.

11. This just in from one of the commenters:
"It's amazing to me that the mainstream media (and their hangers-on) did more to vet "Joe the Plumber" in forty-eight hours than they have done to look in to Barack Obama's shady associations with a former domestic terrorist -- the unrepentant William "Weather Underground" Ayers -- and a hatemongering, vile preacher -- Jeremiah Wright."

Now...McCain has his own "vile preacher," doesn't he? Sadly, I can't remember his name. I also recall folks around here talking recently about McCain and a terrorist...don't remember if it was connected to the AIP thing, or something else.

13. THIS stuff is priceless...
" Just to set the record straight...

a. Sarah Palin is so backwoods she was named by numerous polling sources, magazines and political organizations on both sides as the most popular governor of all 50 states
b. Sarah is so stupid she landed a much sought after position on the Alaska Gas and Oil Regulatory Commission. A job she resigned from because a fellow Commission member (Chair of the Alaska Republican Party) misused his office and position. He was using the fax, computers, printing room and all to promote the Republican endeavors while in a state job. She resigned and made her point, and within weeks Randy Ruderich (the above bad guy) found his butt out on the street and a subsequent investigation found him guilty and he was fined $12,000. Small change actually but a giant point was made.
c. Sarah is such an idiot she beat the incumbent Governor Murkowski, someone who was deeply embedded in a very large and corrupt and republican political machine. After she got into office she started going after corrupt legislators, and with the FBI's help put four of them in prison, indicted six more and the "Corrupt B*st*rd's Club" as they arrogantly called themselves (even had hats made with CBC on the front!) suddenly found it no fun to be in Alaska anymore.
d. Sarah is just so plain dumb that shortly after being elected she took on the powerful oil producers who, by both parties accounts, controlled Alaskan politics and business, and she renegotiated all contracts, raised 1.5 billion in additional oil revenue and made a $1,200 energy refund distribution to each Alaska resident. The revenues came from recalculating the tax on oil producers
e. Sarah is just so darn ignorant that as Mayor of Wasilla, she cut property taxes 60% while spurring economic growth. As soon as she was elected Governor she carried out her campaign promises and sold a $2.1 million corporate jet bought by her predecessor, cut $231 million from Alaska's $550 million capital budget and balanced the Alaskan budget. "
