Guess who showed up at the opening of our Obama office today!
We opened a GOTV office in the heart of Colorado Springs red country today and Kevin Costner showed up to do it right! Here are some pictures!

10. He wasn't prepared for the turn out
Guess they thought only around 20 would show up, so, he didn't prepare any remarks! but, he was good. Talked about civic responsibility and being world citizens. About how our public servants should be So exhausted after their terms that they are ready to retire. About how one of his companies doesn't make any money but, he keeps it open because people depend on those jobs and as someone who has money, it's his responsibility to pass that on. He was great.

Edited on Mon Oct-27-08 08:14 PM by zidzi
they were all discussing the election and freakin' Costner was drunk..posters on DU were pissed. I forget exactly what he was slurring about..oh here(you can google practically Anything!)..

"I really wished Wes had been a little more aggressive though -- Belzer was great but Costner was damn near psychotic: "too much focus on the war" "need to vote your principles" etc. Between that and the harping on Nader's "genius" I really am wondering if he was drugged or drunk or being blackmailed with naked photos by Rove or Nader."

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/10/29/23561/534

Turns out Wes Clark was on that show too and this post on kos sums it up.

I think 4 four more years of bush sobered him up.

He is an Independent
<<Costner is frequently cited as a celebrity Republican, although he no longer is. He did socialize and golf with President George Bush, and in 1992 the Bush re-election campaign leaked word that he would appear in a commercial for the President. Costner, then a registered Republican, had no intention of aiding Bush, according to a close associate. He was a Clinton supporter. "We had to tell the Bush campaign to stop saying he was going to do ads," the associate says. Before the 1996 election, Costner switched his registration to Independent. He gave $5,000 to the Democratic Party and attended the Democratic National Convention. Still, he continues to receive invitations to GOP fund raisers, and in February 1999 the New York Times referred to him as a Republican. "He's not a particularly political guy," says the associate.>>

82. Another Waterworld fan.
As a sci-fi piece, I thought the premise was incredibly unique. But all the bad press about the cost and what I expect might be considered "textbook" action/adventure, drowned out what was some incredible cinematography. I am waiting for the day when the extended version comes out on DVD.

He dumped his wife because she became ill with a colon disorder. She is good friends of my wife's best buddy and believe me his ex-wife hates the bastard. He is a cheap, stupid jock that thinks he is God's gift to mankind. No wonder that he likes McCain another adulterous asshole that dumped his sick wife.

80. Not Elway is a spoiled fuckturd. He fucked his own system by refusing to play for Baltimore,
the team that selected him fair and square in the draft. "Mommy, I'm not going to play for any team unless it's a team from Califonia or Denver, wah wah wahhhhhh."

Elway opened the door for other sports brats like Eric Lindros to do the same thing and thumb their noses at the system because of how spoiled and selfish they were. With those two dipshits, it was all about the endorsements they'd stand to lose playing for a team they considered to be a small market team. Assholes.

19. Costner Is A Good Man
He is involved in Native American philanthropy and operates an educational facility in the Black Hills that is geared to telling about Lakota/Native culture and history.

His vision in making "Dances With Wolves," was ground breaking and long overdue. His desire to have Native People portray themselves (as opposed to Non-Native actors with spray-on tans) was long advocated by Native People. He listened. He took action.

I have visited Pine Ridge Reservation many times. Costner is fondly remembered there, for hiring the local people, for featuring the traditional singers, "The Porcupine Singers," for listening to their input.

Native People are the Democratic Party's most loyal voting block. At least two Democratic Senators hold their seat because of "the Indian vote," Tim Johnson of SD and Maria Cantwell of WA. And in the case of the razor-thin margin of victory by Tim Johnson over John Thune, George W. Bush retaliated by cutting funding to the Mni Wiconi water project that would pipe water to the parched Pine Ridge Reservation. http://www.brotherhooddays.com/HEROES.html#PRESIDENT%20GEORGE%20W.%20BUSH:

There is a scene where Kevin gets on an escalator in the Bethesda Galleria and gets off in the Old Post Office building in downtown DC. like 10 miles as the crow flies. Metro would love to have that escalator lol.

It was a great flick. Along with Open Range.

49. I agree. The critics talk bad about him because most of his movies
are epics, but when he makes great small movies, like 'A Perfect World', they say he should go back to making the epics. ;)

Frankly, I like his smaller movies like the ones I mentioned and also, one that I forgot, 'The Up Side of Anger'. I like him in off beat roles where he is not the great hero, but more the every day man.

I thought that was a really good movie that deserved a lot more attention than it got. Costner was actually VERY good in that film.

To tell the truth, I've always kind of liked Costner despite some of his acting challenges. I was really put off by the fact that I thought he was a big Republican, but now I stand corrected.

31. Im with a couple of posters here
I still think Dances With Wolves is one of the great American film epics .... A film of extraordinary breadth and range ... It was tightly constructed, perfectly edited, and wonderfully acted; a near perfect film ....

I still get choked up at the end when Wind In His Hair yells to Dunbar as he leaves;

"... Dances With Wolves; I am Wind In His Hair ... Do you see that I am your friend? ... Can you see that you will always be my friend? ..."

And don't get me started about the musical score .... Big .... angular ... plaintive ... lyrical and soaring ....

Yeah .... I like that movie ....

90. Thanks for posting that - I looked it up myself recently.
I LOVE Kevin Costner, but it started only recently (when I joined Netflix). I saw "Dances With Wolves" when it first came out, but when I re-watched it, I realized I hardly remembered a thing. Now I've watched all of his movies except for Swing Vote (I'm waiting for the rental), and I just love him.

When you look at the list of his movies on Netflix, you see that he's been involved in a number of documentaries, some of which told me he couldn't be a bush fan. I'm so happy to see him come out for Obama - from what I've read he's just a genuine down-to-earth guy, and maybe he didn't get involved with politics until later in life - it took George W. Bush to get ME involved, and I'm not all that much younger than Costner.

I actually looked him up on Newsmeat because if he HAD been a repuke, it would have changed my opinion of him. I still can't figure out the Phil Gramm thing - he must know him or something.

I have to say, I'm JEALOUS of the OP, and the people there!

72. NO ONE MENTIONED ** " JFK " *** Come on, People!
How could he have made JFK and not be a died in the wool progressive? I'm shocked he had some ambivalence after that script.

Anyway, that was my favorite JFK movie, but I'm a tin foil hatter anyway.

81. He played in it but didn't "make" it.
That was Oliver Stone's baby, like W. :P

83. Costner didn't make JFK
Oliver Stone made JFK, Costner just acted in the film. Big difference. It would be possible for Costner to play that role and not agree at all with the character's thinking.
I am suprised and very happy to see Costner out for Obama.

86. I didn't mean "make" as in direct/produce. I meant "read the script" and
acted in. There was a lot of conviction in his portrayal of his character that seems inconsistent with a wishy/washy political world view.

92. I'm not a big Costner fan, but
"Mr. Brooks" is one of the best damned movies I've ever seen! He wasn't too bad in "3000 Miles to Graceland" either. I think he makes a much better bad guy than a good guy.

I'm glad he's speaking out for Obama!
