Someone stole my brand-new Obama-Biden sign.
Took three weeks for delivery (I ordered it from Obama's web site) ... I put it up less than a week ago and it's already gone.

Fuckers.

I'm putting to good use, however, one of my husband's old Ron Paul signs. It's billboard-sized and blank on one side. I wrote Obama-Biden '08 on it. What else should I write? I'm taking suggestions.

12. Ugh, I'm sorry to hear that. People are asses.
I think part of the reason I'm pissed is that I was planning on saving my sign after the election -- fold it up and store it with my photo albums and stuff. It's such a historic and important election. But now I can't do that. :(

5. Some dirtbag in a white Jeep Cherokee ran over ours
Left tire tracks in our yard which are still there. The cops wouldn't even come out to file a report or see if the vehicle was still riding around the neighborhood vandalizing yard signs. They asked, "Is the vehicle still there?", no it sped off but we can still hear it speeding around the block, "Well we can't send out an officer unless the vehicle is still there but you can call us back if it returns".

16. That's horrible. You know, I'm thinking that the people who do stuff
like that are the same kind of people who think it's fun to play mailbox baseball.

22. They're also the same kind of people who know...
...they can take advantage of our lazy and incompetent police department. It happened in the early morning before the school kids would walk by and my wife and I both heard the motor racing and got to the window as the vehicle was getting back on the street. The 911 operator preferred arguing with my wife rather than sending help. Besides telling the operator that we could still hear the car racing down the block towards the school the operator replied, "Well there's no school today".

But if you were to call the local police substation which only two miles away instead of 911, they would put you on hold and never pick back up. I was there in person once getting a self background check to furnish a potential client with and watched the three officers there sitting at their desks, talking and joking with each other, pick up the phone when it rang and ask the person to hold, hang up and go right back to bullshitting.

I wanted so bad to say something but....well you know.

11. That's a good idea. Even if I can't find another sign, I plan on
donating another $25 or so. Perhaps I should thank the thieves for their contribution to Obama for America?

17. Our huge canvas Obama banner was cut down from our street corner tree this w/e!
It had been tied to our corner eucalyptus tree since before the primaries ended. I paid at least $40 for it online, so I feel your pain. The grommets are still hanging on the ropes. I'm so pissed. They also took our "No on Prop 8" yard sign right off our corner.

I sent a letter to the Editor to a couple of our local papers. It was very therapeutic to do, so I suggest it. I felt more empowered and not so victimized. I'll also try to score a replacement Obama yardsign from our local office this week. It won't be nearly as big as our other one, but at least it'll be something. Our corner looks so empty now! :grr:

Here's what I wrote to our papers:

Letter to the Editor:

Today we discovered that our huge Obama ’08 banner had been cut down off our street corner eucalyptus tree overnight, where it had been tied up high for the past seven months, since before the primaries ended. The grommets were actually still hanging on the rope. Our “No on Prop 8” yard sign had also been stolen right off the corner. Our neighbors across the street also had their Obama yard sign stolen, twice. I am sad and angry that this kind of activity is happening in our own Scotts Valley neighborhoods. How dare thieves violate our right to express our political opinions on our own personal property! We called the police to file a report and were told they have been bombarded in recent weeks with many other calls of this nature. It is disheartening to know there is so much hate in our little corner of the world. But at the same time, it only strengthens our resolve to make a difference come Election Day and vote for Hope, Action, and Change. We will NOT allow a few small-minded individuals to stop us from speaking out and believing in a better future for our country. Hey thieves, it’s YOUR loss, not ours. Change IS coming, no matter how many signs you steal or destroy. Deal with it.

Sincerely,

19. thumbtacks and duct tape along the top of the sign might help.
my first obama sign was stolen from my yard a couple of weeks ago. got a new one today, thanks to a kind neighbor with extras in her trunk.

this one now has a strip of duct tape along the top, with a couple of dozen thumbtacks inserted, so anyone grabbing the top of it will get a nice surprise.

23. Organized Sign Theft
First post ever. Been lurking for 3, maybe 4 years. I had to reply to this. My entire town was cleaned out of Obama/Biden signs Saturday nite. They probably didn't miss more than 2 or 3. Granted, it's a small town of 12k, that's still a big project. Not that here in Kansas my Obama vote will mean much, but my sign did, at least to me. Here's my letter to the editor I wrote Sunday morning, after discovering just my neighborhood had been worked over.

There are 4 houses on my block. Each of them displaying their choice in this election. So you stole the signs Saturday night. That's a very appropriate way for a voter to demonstrate support for a candidate don't you think? You could have given cash to your candidate, canvassed a neighborhood, made some phone calls, distributed flyers, volunteered at the local party headquarters, driven to the nearby battleground state of Missouri and done some work, showed REAL support for your candidate. Instead you chose to trespass and steal. If all you wish to do is show how petty, mean, spiteful and felonious you can be in support of your candidate, it was pretty effective. As a strategy for affecting voters, the outcome of the election, and aiding your candidate, well, it leaves a lot to be desired. My neighbors and I will just get another sign. Can you get another set of morals, since you besmirched the ones you have by becoming a thief?
