I think we're looking at an asskicking of Biblical proportions.

All of those millions upon millions of new voter registrations? I doubt, a LOT, that those folks are signing up so they can vote for McCain.

2. Zero chance. All but impossible.

In this day and age only a pug could win that kind of 49 state landslide because Utah, Alabama, Idaho, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Wyoming, etc. would go red if the nominee was Bozo the clown.

Or even Sarah Palin.

3. Naw.
Nixon won every state but Massachusets and DC. Obama will lose Utah, Idaho, and Oklahoma even if McCain wipes his nose on the flag.

6. No.
I expect it to be on the order of reagan's 1980 10 point popular vote margin and somewhat north of 350 electoral votes.

7. I believe that it is possible that in terms of popular vote it could be like 1984 - 58.8%, 40.6%
Edited on Sun Oct-26-08 02:13 PM by Douglas Carpenter
Percentage, 58.8%-Reagan, 40.6%-Mondale -- however with Reagan carrying 49 out of 50 states and Mondale carrying only his home state of Minnesota and the District of Columbia - that is not plausible. -- but the popular vote gap is within the range of possibility, but less than likely.

As far as 1972 - the popular vote was 60.7% for Nixon vs. 37.5% for McGovern -- I would have to say that it is within the range of possibility - but of course less than likely. However, Nixon carried every state except Massachusetts and McGovern carried only Massachusetts and the District of Columbia. The electoral vote margin is not even remotely plausible -- the popular vote margin is somewhat possible and somewhat plausible, but less than likely.
