Israeli columnist Bradley Burston on Palin

On the bright side, Burston continues, the realization that Israeli politics would never elevate such an inexperienced statesman to a top leadership position restored some faith in their country to the writer and his colleagues. "'This would never have happened in Israel, ever' remarked a journalist friend ... With irony bordering on the painful, the journalist added, 'Sarah Palin has restored my faith in Israel.' Israel is far from a model of good government, wise policymaking and exemplary leaders. But here, at least, voters and the politicians make it their business to know inside and out .... politics ... for what politics really is, in America and Israel both: a matter of life and death."

1. I think Palin's problem goes beyond her inexperience
Even if Sarah Palin had graduated with honors from Harvard or Yale and even if she had decades of experience in high-level governmental decision-making, I still think she would be entirely unfit for the Presidency.

This morning, Fareed Zakaria had two European writers on his show, Bernard-Henri Levy from France and another gentleman from Germany whose name I did not catch. Levy referred to Palin's complete religious folly while the German made excuses for her, saying that she was just religious and that the French don't respect religion.

Palin is not just religious. She's insanely religious, with her beliefs in teaching creationism, her rejection of science, her denial of man-made global warming, her belief that humans walked with dinosaurs, and her constant references to the fact that she's atuned to God's mission for the world and that she's carrying it out.

2. Agreed.
And I think Sarah Palin, in her religious beliefs, has far more in common with the Taliban than she does with most Americans. I thought we didn't support putting religious extremists and theocrats in power in this country!
