My friends, Did you know John McCain was a POW?
They said so on MTP... Golly, he should be president. He always puts country first.

:sarcasm:

1. Well, I'll be damned. I did not know that. Now, if he were only a maverick also,
I think he'd be pretty much unbeatable.

3. But only if he hasn't ever been Miss Congeniality of the Senate. That's a dealbreaker.

6. So was James Stockdale
and he wasn't qualified either.

No slam on what they went through, but this is not a qualification for high office.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here :D

7. Yep, he failed in his mission of bombing civilians and an army armed with hand-me-downs...
...that definitely makes him worthy of the presidency.

10. Brokaw, in essence, gave McCain a 5 minute POW ad.
St.John's obviously very good friend used the fact that this is the anniversary of Ace being shot down in Vietnam to recount, yet again, his main qualification to be president. Brokaw continues to sacrifice his reputation as a journalist to resuscitate the moribund GOP campaign. I never thought very highly of Brokaw when he was in his prime, but I thought he had a modicum of integrity. That idea is no longer sustainable given Brokaw's heavy handed intervention in MSNBC assignments and his barely disguised bias for his friend in his on-air appearances .

19. I saw it differently

For the first 15 minutes McCain was absolutely destroyed.

Any independent or undecided could not have watched that implosion and vote for McCain.

He lost votes. Letting him talk about his POW days just made it seem like Brokaw was being nice after destroying him.

McCain was just terrible.

20.  Any destruction of McCain was self-inflicted not the result
of hard hitting journalism. Brokaw focused on poll numbers to the detriment of issues. He let McCain slide away from answering whether he really believed Obama is a socialist. There was no push back explaining the concept of a progressive tax structure. What you see as a kindness on the POW anniversary, I believe was a free commercial. McCain blew the opportunity as a candidate but Brokaw failed as a reporter. I am sure that they will be happy in their respective retirements reminiscing about when they were center stage. As for me, I can hardly wait for both of them to exit public view.

13. I knew he went to war but I had no idea he was a POW.
I'm seriously rethinking my vote now. Does anyone know if he's a mavericky maverick?

23. McCain hardly ever mentions that does he?
As I recall he only talked about it 6,000 times on the campaign trail.
