McCain's Brother Leaves Campaign After 911 Flareup

AP Saturday, October 25, 2008

Joe McCain apologizes for calling 911 to angrily complain about traffic

Joe McCain said Friday he'll withdraw from campaign activities for his brother, GOP presidential nominee John McCain, after calling 911 to angrily complain about traffic. Joe McCain has apologized for making the call.

The candidate's younger brother, who lives in Alexandria, Va., told Washington radio station WTOP he was returning from a campaign event in Philadelphia around 2 a.m. on Oct. 18 when he got stuck in traffic on Interstate 495 at the Wilson Bridge. Police say the call was made about 1:30 a.m. Oct. 21.

Frustrated because of the traffic, Joe McCain called 911 to find out what was going on. The operator asked him to "state your emergency."

"Well, it's not an emergency, but do you know why on one side at the damn drawbridge of 95 traffic is stopped for 15 minutes and yet traffic's coming the other way?" Joe McCain said.

The operator asked him if he was calling 911 to complain about traffic. McCain then uttered an expletive and hung up the phone.

5. Is the side of his head really that flat? It's like his head is made of clay and someone hit him
with a fry pan.

9. 495
Is the capitol beltway. The Woodrow Wilson Bridge is a DRAWBRIDGE. It goes up to allow tall ships through. It does this a lot. I have been trapped there for up to an hour. People who drive the beltway KNOW this. I used to just get out and stretch my legs like 75% of the other people stuck with me. I have watched as several large ships have passed and just figured it was a good time to take in the scenery.

Why would anyone ever be dumb enough to consider being trapped in traffic worth a 911 call. If he was having a heart attack in the traffic yes... if he is inconvenienced - not so much.

10. Ah, he just did it to get out of the campaign

Yes, laughing but seriously: he did it to get out of the campaign.

Everyone attached to it is sick and tired of it. Nobody likes working hard for a losing cause except fanatics. And being John's bro doesn't make Joe a fan. In fact Joe strikes me as a love-you-when-you're-up, kick-you-when-you're-down type of guy.

So he said to himself, How can I jump this sinking ship without getting cut out of John's will? Hey, I know. I'll make an ugly, headline-grabbing scene.

What do you want to bet that that's what went through his mind?

Any ohter citizen would have been cited if the police had to put up w/this...no one should be above the law...x(

19. The sad thing is
It took a phone call to him from the police (went to voice mail) and then a returned phone call to them to get this idiot to realize that 911 is not http://www.traffic.com.

22. The man is an "elitist", he can do what he wants...
his brother is a Senator and terrible presidential candidate. Of course if this were you or I, we'd be cast into the Black Hole of Calcutta because the "party of law and order" demands their pound of flesh.

15. Joe the McCain
Joe the McCain represents the privileged, uppity, asinine administration of John McCain. We need to tie this jackass around McCain's neck and bring him down with his inbred, ignorant brother.

21. The funny thing is you couldn't pay Barack to use this against
McCain...he will never mention it...but if the shoe was on the other foot they would have ads out and have this situation as part of their daily stump speech. They are a sorry group...those McCain brothers make the Castro brothers look like lil boys.
