Dear John,
May I call you John? Maybe I shouldn't be so forward, but after all this time of being called "friend" by you I feel that some connection must exist between us. As a friend, I am expressing my deepest concern when I ask "Where are all your other friends?". I ask this because surely if you had other friends, at least ONE of them would have given you some straight talk by now. Do you remember what straight talk is? It's not the empty motto that you have plastered all over your rolling lie factory that you (sarcastically?) call the "Straight Talk Express". It's a friend speaking the plain truth to another friend. As a friend, I have to ask you "Is this really the path you want to go down?". You used to have a lot of respect. Years ago, you were even respected by people on our side of the aisle. You know, back when you really were a maverick. But I guess you learned your lesson. You gave up the substance of what really made you a maverick in exchange for the empty illusion you keep pushing. I guess you had to neuter yourself, toe the line, cut the balls off of the maverick to convince the RNC to give you the candidacy. The John McCain of 2000 would be disgusted with the John McCain of 2008. Or was the maverickiness a lie all along? Maybe it was. You know what it's like to be on the receiving end of lies and smears courtesy of *. And yet you still sucked up to him, embraced him. Is the way you're treating Obama your way of dealing with your shame over embracing the very "man" who did the same to you? Do you even have any shame? Based on what I've seen from you during this election, I'd have to say NO.
Take this advice from a friend. You have lost this election. You lost because you're pushing the same tired ideas but adding the word "maverick" to them in the hopes that we'll think it's something shiny and new. As the saying goes "You can't polish a turd". Please John, you've lost. You know this. It's in your eyes. It's in the false bravado of "We've got him right where we want him.". Well, I hope it's false bravado and not a delusion. Before this election is over, reverse the course of your campaign. Apologize for the behavior of yourself and your surrogates. Show some class and abandon the attack ads. Maybe when this is all over, you can exit with the tiniest shred of dignity left. Maybe you can reclaim the spirit of what you once was. Or at least be able to live with yourself.
Best wishes for a happy RETIREMENT, Cheap_Trick
p.s. It's already too late for your running mate. Cut that dead weight loose before she drags you all the way to the bottom.
