Visualize Victory!
Edited on Tue Oct-21-08 01:24 PM by tblue
Good or bad, what you focus on becomes your reality.

Say I'm hurrying to an appointment downtown somewhere. I want to find street parking but it's the middle of the day, so I assume I won't find a close parking space and I'm upset because I know I'm gonna be late for my meeting. What happens? I find a parking space 6 blocks away, and I end up frustrated and embarrassed as I rush into my meeting several minutes late.

OR

Same scenario except I imagine myself finding the perfect parking space and then arriving on time, relaxed, and ready for my meeting. What happens? Hey, look! Here's a spot! Great! It's only half a block away! I get to my appointment and later on I realize, that's what I saw happen in my mind.

This works, people.

-----------------------

I've been a student of the power of visualization for years. There have been plenty of studies that show there is something to it. Visualizing the RESULT you want to achieve sets in motion the series of events and actions that need to occur for the desired result to occur. The focus needs to be on the ACHIEVEMENT, the victory, NOT on the work it will take to make it happen or impediments you fear stand in the way of your goal. And all it takes to really work is to imagine how this victory will feel, sound, and look to you in as concrete a way as possible.

I am not saying don't plan and don't get down to work. We have to do all of that. I'm only suggesting you add a few minutes of heartfelt visualization to your day every day. Believe me, it will make a difference.

I'm just gonna post here a link to a site that explains it better than I have time to myself. It's a very quick read. I encourage everyone to read the page in full.

We can have this victory. We just need to focus on how good we will feel when we win this election. DO NOT focus on JMcC or SP or any GOPer or FuxNews or a Bradley Effect or voting machines. No! Visualize the result you want, and how you will feel when we achieve it.

6. President Obama
is the greatest President of the 21st Century, and among the greatest of all our Presidents.

How's that for an affirmation?

7. I heard something useful about this very thing just yesterday
By "this very thing" I mean politics and visualization, not just visualization.

To make visualization more effective, we need to focus entirely on what we do want about Obama and not on what we don't want about McCain. Focusing on the things we don't like about McCain--with emotions rather than dispassionate observation--just brings more energy to those things.

I know that in 2004 I was focusing much more on my anti-Bush feelings than on my pro-Kerry feelings... not just because Kerry wasn't my original choice as candidate but also because my anti-Bush feelings were SO strong. This time, I think the candidate musters up more enthusiasm from his supporters on his own merits (please forgive me, Kerry supporters) and is much much more than the anti-McCain, and even freepers aren't as pro-McCain as they are anti-Obama... so by focusing on Obama, both they and we are giving energy to the idea of Obama as president.

12. thank you! I just ordered this book!
And when I Googled it, your post showed up!

I love the things you're visualizing and the positive attitude you have. I listened again, in the car an hour ago, to the CD I mentioned earlier about visualization and politics--for us woo-woo types who believe in this kind of thing, it really is so important to focus on what we love about Obama and our country and to not give energy to what we hate about McCain and the far right. And it feels so much better to think that way, too--even though it's difficult when election fraud is already happening, freepers are lying, etc. All that bad stuff may be true and it needs to be dealt with (with the emotional focus on how wonderful free and honest elections are and how good it feels to trust our candidate, rather than on the damage that the bad guys are doing or on the lies that are being told), but all the feelings about hope and change and being able to trust our government again and how wonderful that transition you wrote about is--those are all true too!

11. If I visualize Freeper heads exploding, will that work too?
Just kidding. I'm seriously visualizing an Obama victory and the beginning of the end of these 8 horrible years.

Thanks for a very helpful post.
