Chuck Todd pointed this out on MSNBC. He said the Dems would only need 58 total seats to have an effective filibuster-proof Senate. Also, Lieberman would still vote with Dems on many issues.

Chuck Todd claimed that he had spoken to some insider Dems who didn't want Franken to win. Supposedly their reasoning was that if Franken wins, then it will open up the flood of "celebrity" Dems to run for Senate seats in other states. I'm not sure if I'm buying that argument though.

Also, kind of interesting, is that he also suggested that the Dems might be better served if they are just shy of 60 seats but still have an effective filibuster-proof Senate. I think his reasoning was that Republicans could push the divided government argument and also since a recession is a near certainty, use it to attack the Dems in 2010. :hi:

You know they'll be going to court over Acorn when they lose. We'll be in litigation until well after Inauguration Day, posing a constitutional crisis similar to the one in 2000. The Supreme Court is still majority Republican.

My fear is for a court-appointed President McCain, who will die shortly, leaving us with....well, I can't bring myself to type it, but you know what I mean.
