Poll question: Do you want Colin Powell's endorsement?
He has no cred in my book, and any respect I have for him as a servicemember is lost because of all of the dead men and women who's blood is on his hands....those same hands that drew pictures of mobile weapons labs that never existed.

I'd be happy if he'd just disappear, or as the quote goes, Just Fade Away

1. I'm completely indifferent
If he should endorse, yay for him, I'll ignore it completely. He no longer has any political meaning to me.

3. No matter how one personally feels about Powell, it would be
huge news and a great endorsement for Obama. I,for one, hope it's true.

6. I like Powell. He did what he could to keep Bush on a leash.
He couldn't do it.

7. I don't want it but I do want Obama to have it. Despite what I think of Powell, it will be helpful
with independent voters and winning the election is what matters. So if he does endorse Obama then that's fine with me. It's better than him endorsing McCain.

8. Yes, but..
..it has no influence on me.

However, there may be some undecideds that it would swing.

( I can't believe how anyone can be undecided at this point, but.... )

9. Other
He's not endorsing me or you, if true he'll be endorsing Senator Obama, and it's up to him as to whether he accepts the endorsement, not us.

10. Hell no!
Colin Powell went to the UN, blatantly lied to them, and he knew it was all bullshit. Obama rightly called it out as "a dumb war, a rash war". He doesn't need the endorsement of one of the war criminals who caused this mess.

18. But nobody has to sell YOU on Obama. At this point, they are trying to reel in
undecideds and independents. Powell's endorsement will go a long way to allay any lingering fears they might have. It may also discourage some Repukes from voting altogether.

13. Of course we ALL want Powell's endorsement. It will go a long way with independents
Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 09:55 AM by renie408
and it also goes a long way in speaking to one of the weaknesses that Repukes try to lay on Obama...not strong on defense and scarily radical. Powell isn't going to endorse somebody for President just because they are black and no matter what, he wouldn't endorse somebody he didn't feel could defend this country and who didn't have a steady hand.

14. Yes, Powell's endorsement will probably help Obama win some more Republicans.
I personally have little or no respect for Powell but it doesn't matter what I think - I'm already voting for Obama.

28. They can try, but it won't be 'that'.
There is still a huge amount of respect for Colin Powell in centrist to right voters. There are still even some respect for him amongst centrist to left voters. Far lefties can't stand him and far righties don't like him because he 'abandoned' Bush, but everybody in between will listen. It will add weight to all the other endorsements and may either discourage GOP voters or encourage undecideds.

32. And then we wait for Chuck Hagel to go next...
The white guy from Nebraska. Yup... Powell is black (but very well respected by most republicans and independants).. but we have several white republicans who are endorsing Obama as well.

regardless of what his DU relative says. If he does go through with it and it helps fine. At the same time no one knows what he'll do on Sunday and I wouldn't speculate.

17. Most definitely!
My respect for him has certainly paled over these last few years, but he still is a national leader. He is held in high regard with a certain segment of society, and Obama can use all the help he can get with that segment. I believe this endorsement will win us more than a few votes.

20. It ain't about what you or I think about him
A lot of our fellow amurkins really think his shit doesn't stink. An Obama endorsement by this guy whom the press has elevated to the status of icon would have an enormous effect on those who rely on the so called MSM for their news.

22. If it would draw some more support to Obama
I'd take the endorsement of anybody. Powell can draw in some right leaning independants who still worry that Obama is weak on the issue of security.

That being said though, this late in the game I really don't think there are that many people that remain to be swayed one way or another. Most of the so called independents IMHO are pretty much attention whores that like to be pandered too, they know who they're going to vote for but they love the free cookies at focus groups and getting to turn those little dials at CNN debate watch parties.

24. What I want and what we think here about a Powell endorsement is irrelevant.
His endorsement will not lose any votes for Obama, but it may certainly gain some with undecided voters and wavering Republicans who still hold him in esteem and believe that his loyalty to Bush screwed him out of the opportunity to someday run for president or have any kind of career. It doesn't matter what we think about it, but rather how it helps Obama. That's reality.

26. It'll further cement an Obama win.
Edited on Fri Oct-17-08 10:19 AM by longship
It will influence undecideds. Obama may even gain some extra EVs because of it.

But, I want it to happen mostly for what it will do to the McLame campaign. A Powell Obama endorsement would pretty much kill McLame's already slim chances.

I can't believe anybody here wouldn't want that.

I wouldn't hope for his endorsement, yet I wouldn't reject it either. I guess I'm pretty cynical about him.
