Women's Rant
I responded with this comment on another post, but I decided my rant was too important not to include it on it's own post.
Women across this nation must be pissed this morning...these were my thoughts as I tried to sleep last night...
Last night when I heard McCain's sarcasm as he "DISSED" women in the form of mocking "the women's health" ...steam poured out my ears...I was furious, as I suspect many women across this nation were.
I thought of my daughter and her daughters and thought My God what century does this man belong to?
I thought of my Grandmother....the suffragettes...who won the right to vote
My Grandmother born in 1897...who graduated from high school in 1917...yes a woman graduating further than the 8th grade....who went on to become a partial owner of a major business. A working married mother of 2... in the 1920's Trailblazers...
She gave me choice...I am forever grateful to the women who fought so valiantly for women's right to choose...HOW DARE HE MOCK WOMEN AND WOMENS HEALTH... :grr:

1. And how dare he imply that a woman's health and life somehow
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 07:09 AM by Skidmore
is of less worth than a man's. That right to choose has doubtless preserved the lives and health of many women so that they could continue to be mothers to their other children when making that choice.

How dare he imply that women are incapable of making choices about their bodies, their lives, their families, and by extrapolation, their nation?

I was pretty steamed because I was remembering what it was like before Roe v. Wade and birth control pills--back when women grew old before their time after birthing large families. Anyone who does genealogical research can tell you about the large families of 10+ children and a woman dying young or due to complications of childbirth. They can also tell you of the second wives who replaced the first to raise those children in addition to having a large family of their own marriage to the man.

So many who went before us gave us the choices we have today and I will make certain my little granddaughters grow up keeping those choices.

Absolutely....I am really steamed.... :grr:
Go to any old cemetery...look at the gravestones...
How many wives died of childbirth...8-10-12 children....?
We cannot give up our reproductive rights....We cannot give the government power over our own bodies...

4. Absolutely. And why...
why would you EVER want to force a woman to give birth to a baby she did not want, whatever her personal reasons? I've never understood that need to punish; that kind of mental and physical cruelty. No compassion whatsoever.

I also yelled at the TV whenever he referred to it as a woman's decision... yep, so you admit it's a DECISION, eh, Johnny?? As well it should remain!

5. The health of women and mothers seemed to be unimportant to McInsane.
He belittled the concern so many people have for the well being and health of a mother during pregnancy.

I had a real tough time with my last daughter. My doctor told me several different times I was within minutes of bleeding to death. McInsan's comments about how unimportant our lives are in the decision to have an abortion just made my head explode.

As if me risking my life to bring my daughter into this world was trivial and a minor concern.

The health of women and mothers are no more important to McInsane, and his rabid dog Palin, then the well being of an incubator.

Just because Palin was stupid enough to get on an 11 hour flight after her water broke does no mean we all are so careless with our lives and the lives of our babies.

6. McCain does not have care in his psyche... He wants to win...
I know Obama is a politician but I believe he believes what he is talking about, its not just pandering, its what he believes, equality, fairness, justice. The GOP has not been about that in decades.
Cheers
BK

9. He kindly displayed the patriarchal, dismissive attitude that we've fought so long.
And they thought he had a problem with women voters before...

10. The hypocrisy of the right is that they harp on keeping government out of lives
No corporate regulation, no help for the poor, no gun control but they change their tune when it comes to fundamental health decisions that should be made between a woman and her doctor.

Fucking paternalistic hypocrites. :grr:

11. I've had all night to ponder it
And I am PISSED! How dare John McCain describe himself as a "Pro-Life" candidate! Do women's lives not matter a hoot to him and the abominable Ms. Palin? This is the man that thinks that invading a country that has never attacked us is just a dandy idea. What about the hundreds of thousands of Iraqi civilians that have died, and the millions more who've been forced into exile? How does that fit in a "Pro-Life" agenda?

This is also a man who thinks that concern for women's health is just a liberal platitude. Who's voted to deny funds for family planning world wide, funds that could SAVE the lives of women and children. Ever heard of "obstetrical fistula", John? Most Americans haven't, but it makes the lives of millions of women a living hell. And you and your buddy Bush have vetoed the money that the UNFP could use to eliminate it because maybe some country some where might use it to pay for an abortion, though there's never been any proof that the funds were used that way.

I've spent over thirty years working in Women's Health, to make sure that no woman ever has to get pregnant against her will. That's Pro-Life, John. You're just another miserable misogynist.

PRO-LIFE, HELL!!!
