Is Obama's surge the result of his Debate Performances, Blowback from the Ayers crap?
Or Joe Biden's Reassurance in his debate?

My wife seems to think its neither. Not even the Financial Crisis.

She believes it started with the 2 minute ad with him sitting in the chair talking about the economy. She believes that by talking to her conservative friends, it was a powerful spot. I'm just curious what date did that ad start running?

1. He comes across as calm and collected in the face of crisis
You get the sense he saw it coming, he's not been taken by surprise, and he's able to see beyond it. McCain is more like a small dog, smelling it, yapping about it and running hither thither trying to come up with something that will make you see him.

3. Obama started to destroy McCain's poll lead on Sept. 12th.....
Edited on Wed Oct-15-08 08:23 AM by Clio the Leo
.... or it might have been the 13th but it was immediately after Palin's infamous "In what regard Charlie?" interview with Charles Gibson and BEFORE that "the fundamentals of our economy are sound" gaffe. Obviously the economy has helped TREMENDOUSLY, but I think Obama would have been ahead at this point anyway even if the Dow was fine. This far ahead, maybe not, but ahead? Definately.

History will write that his popularity surged as the Dow tumbled ..... but *I* will always remember the real turning point. It began with a "blizzard of words."

4. I think it's Ayers (and Palin)
But it is so dishonest to act that that Ayers bullshit is a major issue. Dirty, gimmicky politics is what got us Bush and people are more on the lookout for it now. I think this election will change the way campaigns are run re:negative attacks.

5. First debate.
That's when the polls started to change. People suddenly realized that they could see him as leader of the free world and decided maybe he wasn't so scary after all.

7. How about ALL OF THE ABOVE
Basically, everything seems to have worked together somehow to create the perfect storm for Obama IMHO

Tina Fey, mixed with Letterman, and the dominoes came tumbling down

9. It is not the result of a single event, our campaign is simply much better.
- McCain's campaign has no real message, they tried to steal Obama's
- Obama had a postive, steady message from the start
- Obama has shown leadership and reassured people in the crisis
- McCain was all over the place and erratic
- McCain's supsension stunt was simply stupid
- McCain's "fundamentels of the economy gaffe"
- we have a better VP
- Palin has been exposed as unqualified
- we win the issues
- we focus on the issues, McCain focused on attacks
- their campaign appears to be divided on many things, how to attack Obama, on what to focus
- Palin often disagrees with McCain

I probably forgot some things. The point is, I can't remember a single big mistake by Obama's campaign after the RNC, McCain's campaign on the other hand could not have been worse. The debates helped to strengthen the differences.

11. Its a combination
Palin, financial crisis, Obama and Biden both winning debates, McCain looking old and erratic, Obama looking like a steady leader. Obama's campaign has been running really good ads and a lot of them. I think Palin is actually a bigger drag on McCain than the pundits realize.

I really haven't heard a lot of people talking about Bill Ayers. I think most people still don't know who he is.
