BOSTON—The Boston Globe has endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for president, saying he has the temperament, nerves and vision to lead the country and restore its "place of leadership in the world."
The Globe said on its Web site Monday night that unlike some of his rivals in both parties, Obama "isn't refighting the political or cultural battles of the 1960s" but is "asking Americans to take responsibility for the nation's problems now."
The newspaper said it's impossible to ignore his historical significance as the first black major-party presidential nominee, and "voters can make no more powerful statement about America's commitment to inclusion and opportunity than to put forward this man ... as the nation's representative to the world."
