Explain me this about ACORN....
If they turn in these fraudulent forms and get registered to vote, can they actually go vote without anything being verified? Say I signup 3 times (as they showed happening) I can then go to 3 different precincts and vote? There is no ID or anything required or is that the push?

8. It is election fraud, not voter fraud, that needs to be addressed.
Voter fraud is nearly non-existent. Election fraud by repukes is rampant.

11. Making a stink about ACORN now makes their challenge of Obama's win look less petty.
Because that is what this is leading to.

12. I don't know about that....
I think it will be such a wide win there will be no contesting it!

I think ACORN came up again because they were busted turning in fraudulent forms, then they cling to this because they are so desperate!

I originally thought that it was re-thugs doing the forms to get this on the air and continue to spread FUD

20. You think it's a coincidence that ACORN is suddenly on the lips of EVERY republican?
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 01:59 PM by gatorboy
Half of which probably had no idea what ACORN was until this week?

Yes, it's desperation, but it's also a tactic. Keep ACORN alive in the minds of Americans up until the election so when Obama's presidency is challenged, it looks less like a knee jerk reaction.

18. Exactly. FOX is already, as is Lou Dobbs, gearing up to cry, "Foul!" over Obama's victory.

someone in the media gets some balls and says, "It's not like Homer Simpson is going to vote 435 times in the same precinct". Republonuts will continue banging the drum.

9. It varies by state.
Some states don't ask for any ID.

Some states require a photo ID.

14. Yes, however...
Acorn is not trying to register voters fraudulently. They flag the fake ones (and apparently fire the workers who do it) and turn the fake ones in with the legit ones while noting that the fake ones are fake and need to be thrown out. If I'm not mistaken, they're required to turn in every single one (including the bogus ones).

21. Right, but not all states require IDs when people go to the polls.
In Minnesota, you don't have to show ID to vote if you're already registered.

15. Information on registering to vote..
http://www.eac.gov/files/voter/nvra_update.pdf

Anyone can download a registration form and mail it in. No matter where I get my registration form from, by law the person that takes my application must turn it in.

17. Voting more than once in the same election is voter fraud.
In most states conviction of voter fraud means you lose your right to exercise that vote forever.

22. Getting signed to to register to vote is one part ot the process
Anyone can fill out a registration form and have errors on it.

What happens is that the form gets submitted AND THEN IS CHECKED AND VERIFIED by the elections council or committee in the location where the voter supposedly lives. That is where voters get knocked off the list.

23. here's a good article I just read about ACORN on the Huffington Post
Edited on Sun Oct-12-08 02:24 PM by ErinBerin84
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tom-matzzie/how-mccain-will-steal-the_b_133989.html

debunks some of the ACORN myths, and points out how the meme is very similar to the enduring conservative urban legend that JFK stole the election from Nixon due to Chicago voter fraud, which of course has no basis in the facts.
