I still remember December 12, 2000
I remember the night Bush v. Gore came down. I knew it was bad news for the country. I never thought it would turn out to be this bad.

2. I was at the airport coming home from Germany that night...
and I was at the luggage carousel picking up my luggage. When my family told me that Al Gore is going to concede, I remember cursing real loud in the airport. Everyone was looking at me and I didn't care. The air felt real different that night.

I can't wait for clean air to come on November 5.

3. Who woulda thunk it?
I thought we would be in for 4 pathetic, marginal years of non-action. Was I horribly wrong.

4. So do I.
I can barely think about it without crying. I will never, EVER forget what those bastards -- all of 'em, including the people who supported Bush -- did to us.

5. Yup.
When I heard that the Supreme Court had stopped the recount, I stood in my living room and screamed at the top of my lungs -- which wasn't easy because I'm not, by nature, a screamer.

Then, a few days later when Gore conceded, I physically collapsed with extreme fatigue and a very sore throat. Missed two days of work.

Awhile later, before Bush was inaugurated, I said to a friend during lunch that I expected an event early on during Bush's presidency that would lead to the curtailment of civil rights and possibly martial law.

I KNEW that nothing good could come of Florida election debacle.

7. I did.
I knew that fucker would put America in the toilet. And what do you know? The ONE time I'm right about something. It sucks!

8. I can somewhat relate
I was too young in 2000, but it affected a family member deeply. They will never stop telling me the physical stomach pain they had for 11 months after that, truly sad.

10. That was the last time I shed tears over an election.
If Obama wins, I might.
And if both Obama and Franken win, I definitely will.

From the looks of the polls lately, I need to stock-up on some Kleenex.

11. I always think about what the author Sarah Vowell said:
"I talk about going to his Inauguration and crying when he took the oath, 'cause I was so afraid he was going to 'wreck the economy and muck up the drinking water'... the failure of my pessimistic imagination at that moment boggles my mind now."
