Stop. Breath. SCREAM!
So my friend has a little brother in high school. The kid has some questions about his sexuality, and is curious. So his brother sent me to talk to him, and I have. And somehow, it turned to politics. He said he liked McCain. So I wanted to explore further why, because I've never heard an actual argument for McCain. It always turns to Obama, and why they hate him. I asked him why, and he said he wants to drill in Alaska. I said false, he's for offshore drilling but opposed to drilling in Alaska. I said Palin is for it. So then he changes the subject to "Obama will be shot" and I told him he was racist. He resisted, and I told him to get back to McCain--why do you like him? Long pause *starts typing* long pause "Because my family is Republican, and I am too"

So I asked him why he was Republican? No response. Changes the subject to Obama is just a trend, people want something new not necessarily better. He said Obama was trying to act different than other Democrats. I said virtually all of his proposals are copies of a lot of other Democratic politicians plans including much of the same principles of Gore and Kerry's. He had no response. He said he just was Republican because his family had money, and he liked the tax cuts. I said "so you're greedy"

AND THEN...

He said "I don't want Obama, he's black"

OH MY GOD.

Then I call him racist, he says he's not racist. I say he's an ignorant racist who can't think for himself, only what mommy and daddy tell him in his ear. And he gets pissed. He calls me a FAGGOT (I'm gay) even though I'm talking to him because he's confused about his own sexuality, and BLOCKS me.

Are you kidding me?!?!

Are ALL young voters like this?

WOW. I'm in college, so I'm a young voter. I hope he gets out in the real world, and sees for himself what it's like.

2. Good point, but he will be soon. And I was a volunteer in HS, before I could vote.
I hate to know what his parents brainwashed him into doing.

3. high school
I was a Republican (high school years) because my parents were and still are Republicans. Then I went into the real world and over time changed my beliefs or you can say I didn't know my beliefs did not match Republican ones. He'll grow out of it over the years.

4. On edit: When I was growing up, my parents had a GOP lean--but they let us make up our own mind.
Same with church, and my sexuality.

I wish more parents would stop forcing their beliefs on children, and brainwashing them.

Let them express the world, both the good and the bad. And let them form into who they want to be, while guiding them.

5.  Your exchange with him is VERY important. We remember people who challenge us

at an early age, especially if they are not our parents who we naturally resent as we try to establish our person hood within our family and the greater world. You should keep up the good work. YOU are the wiser. Have generosity of spirit...let him work with your statements himself...thank you for caring about him.
