McCain linked to private group in Iran-Contra case
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081007/ap_on_el_pr/mccain_iran_contra

By PETE YOST, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - GOP presidential nominee John McCain has past connections to a private group that supplied aid to guerrillas seeking to overthrow the leftist government of Nicaragua in the Iran-Contra affair.

McCain's ties are facing renewed scrutiny after his campaign criticized Barack Obama for his link to a former radical who engaged in violent acts 40 years ago.

The U.S. Council for World Freedom was part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads in Central America. The group was dedicated to stamping out communism around the globe.

3. McCain tied to Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing death squads
Edited on Tue Oct-07-08 03:55 AM by Democat
How would this play in Florida?

On one hand you have the Nazi connection, offending Jewish voters and any other reasonable voters.

On the other hand, you have the ultra right wing anti-communist angle, which might actually appeal to some extremist anti-Castro Cuban voters?

I doubt the death squads appeal to any voters, other than the more extreme right wing Republicans (Palin campaign rally attendees?), who dream of death squads for American liberals.

Any thoughts?

5. Good point!
It's hard to believe that a guy who supported Nazis and death squads is this close to the US presidency in 2008.

Hope Obama isn't afraid to use this at the debate!

13. I don't know that Obama knows this stuff......
Hell, it's not like common knowledge.

The media would rather concentrate on attacking Obama, not so much McCain.

7. Someone should make a list, naming names and affiliations!
Which ones are the Nazis and which ones are the death squad supporters?

Obama needs to prepare some brutal ads to destroy McCain and Palin, just in case the Ayers stuff starts to stick.

8. Better be careful...
One has to be careful though. One should concentrate on convicted criminals and people with the most questionable records. In the eyes of Joe Six-Pack a "patriot" might not necessary be evil.
