She lost on one point. All the answers, all the spin, all the winking at the camera - none of that matters. She lost right here:
Palin proved last night she does not understand the role of the Vice President.
Palin thinks that the Vice President is "flexible" as to their role in the Constitution. As Biden pointed out, that is right in Article I, and is covered within the first week of basic high school civics. There is no missing it. To not understand that is akin to going into a job interview as a basic office worker, and when asked what the anticipated role is, answering that it is supposed to be managing the company or controlling the budget. Ask yourself - would you hire someone who thinks they are that entitled, or that has so little grasp of what the role of the job is supposed to be? Why then would anyone look for that same lack of understanding in leadership?
What's more, Biden gave us the answer to completely ruin anyone's willingness to support Palin. He correctly linked her to Cheney. Her view specifically is that Cheney views the office the way it is supposed to be viewed -which we all know he doesn't. And we, all of us, know he doesn't. Cheney's popularity numbers are horrible, and always have been. The entire country knows that he is completely evil. It's a surprise that he doesn't have throngs of people every day throwing rotten vegetables at him. He is as close to being a melodramatic villain as anyone will ever see in real life, and Palin thinks he's right.
If our side has any sense at all, they will repeat this point over and over again, starting right now. Tie her to Cheney with steel cable. Make sure every time her name is mentioned, Cheney's is too. What popularity she has because of her "folksy charm" and idiotic winking at the cameras will evaporate in a hurry.
