Biden debate strategy - Be cordial, or go for the jugular?
I think there are two paths that Joe Biden can follow in the upcoming Vice Presidential debate.

On one hand, he could be like a puncher in boxing - attempt to rip her to shreds with his knowledge (and her lack of knowledge) on the issues, and go for the knock out. This would no doubt excite the base, but could be a turn-off to independent voters.

On the other hand, he could be like a tactical boxer - jabbing here and there, and going for the one punch when it's open. This may appear to be less aggressive than his base (us) would want, but it may appeal more to undecideds.

So - does he go for the 1st round KO, or late round TKO?

1. Slowly feed her the rope.
She'll do the rest.

6. He could say, "With all due respect," and THEN go for the knockout.
Actually, I don't know-- what's the forum? Will they be sitting around a table again?

7. Biden is ALWAYS cordial!
He goes for the jugular on their policies and misstatements - never personally.

And with Palin showing us more of her lack of understanding ANYTHING, he doesn't have to do a thing except answer the moderator's questions - his responses along will show how lacking in substance Palin is.

24. Not if she is allowed to babble on and dominates in that beauty-pageant-idiotic-blather
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 04:21 PM by 1Hippiechick
Surely, the moderator will cut her off! While what she says may be idiotic, for him to stand there and let her "have her say" is DEFERENCE, which I don't think he should do, particularly since DEFERENCE was a demand of the Republican Party. I'm surprised that the questions have not had to be presented for approval by the Repukes.

I think he needs to weave into his responses FACTS that REFUTE her claims about her "governorship" and "mayorship" claims.

9. Cordially go for the jugular? He's nice enough to do that.
He needs to tell it like it is and lay off pointing out her weaknesses. Let her show them to the people. If he attacks her, many people will be offended that he's picking on the poor little woman.

13. go after McCain and Bush
Edited on Sun Sep-28-08 04:09 PM by tpi10d
Demonstrate depth of knowledge. Be courteous and tactful to Palin to a fault. Even share a laugh or two with her.

When this all plays out she well may be a sympathetic figure to many middle of the roaders. Out of her league, limited ability, but more of a symbol of McCain bad judgment and impulse for choosing her than any fault on her part.

14. Option 3 - ignore her completely...
Pretend that John McCain is at the podium instead of Sarah Palin. Answer every question based on what McCain has said and what McCain would do, and let Palin self-destruct exclusively with the moderator.

17. Pre-debate statement should read something like:
"She compared herself to a pit bull, and I've heard that pit bulls are pretty vicious.

Besides, if I treated her any more gently than anyone else I'd be facing, that would be sexist, right?"

25. Sink/swim on her own- but call her on blatant lies-otherwise demonstrate his vast knowlege on issues
He shouldn't IGNORE her (a la McCain)... no "contempt" should be shown, friendly, but don't take her too seriously.

that will be remember from the debate

1.) if Biden is a dick
2.) if Palin is a ditz...

All Biden has to do is be cool and he won't lose any ground.

34. I think you're right
Be strong, sure, and know everything.

Let her drone on about whatever she wants.

Then press her, if necessary, to be more specific, to show she actually knows the issues.

And then see what happens, and go from there.

35. Cordial...and act like a gentleman...totally.
Nothing says BAD NEWS more than a man beating up on a woman. Yes, that is a sexist point of view...but it is totally true. She can and will get away with shit he cannot do. What Biden needs to do, IMO, is to look presidential...and let her on her own look like a fucking airhead.
