So, what are the key post-debate lines of attack against McCain?
My observations, off the top of my head...

  • McCain's misstatement of Kissinger's position on "conditions"
  • McCain's "spending freeze" (e.g. how's he gonna pay for his energy plans, or anything else?)
  • McCain's judgment on advocating for invasion of Iraq
  • McCain's lack of diplomacy in regards to "bomb Iran" and North Korea

3. McCain was grumpy, overly combative, redundant, and tense.
His attempted zingers seemed downright contrived and he was less than convincing when he proclaimed Obama "dangerous." Plus he was really condescending. And his claim of vast experience falls a little flat when one thinks about Palin and looks at this wrinkled old man who could be dead before January 2009 - he certainly did not look healthy tonight.

5. A *very* good sign for Obama, in my view, was the audience response lines on CNN ...
... tanking, at the end, when McCain started attacking Obama and saying Obama isn't ready. For the audience to react like that, it shows a shift away from McCain and to Obama.

4. Good one from Keith Olbermann: McCain admitting the US has tortured prisoners
In KO's lead-in, he highlights McCain's statement that the "US will never again torture"

Oopsy! It's gonna be awful tough to match that pledge with his vote in support of torture.
