A Tale of Two Conventions
The DNC pulled a brilliant ploy. Everyone expected 96 hours of * bashing. And goodness knows they could have pulled it off.

And what did they do? A shiny, well-lit convention with lots of happy music and upbeat speeches. Talking about how great tomorrow will be, to keep working, great things will happen. That's the stuff voters like.

What has the RNC done? Scared the crap out of America for 3 days straight and put up a keynote speaker who just said John Kerry has no soul, and using stupid band-aids. How they could EVER think that would appeal to ANY voter who isn't already in *'s camp, I don't know.

They have just comitted political suicide, and boy is it fun to watch.

1. I'm Surprised
They don't have a sign that says DICK. They have those stupid 'W' signs that makes them all look illiterate. All this stupid party has is catch phrases. They are nothing but "girlie-men" as Ahnuld puts it.

2. I am "new" to politics...
so, I have a question about these *stupid* conventions: Have they always been so...well...bashing? I watched the Dem. one....and as an independent, I have to say that I was a little put off by the "reporting for duty" speech given by Kerry...(but ANYBODY but Bush, right?) but watching the repub convention is making my stomach turn...really...have they ALWAYS been so nauseating in the past?

3. His speech bothered you?
What is wrong with "reporting for duty"? That is what I expect from my elected officials - to serve and do their duty. Even as an elected official, their job is a duty and I expect them to do it to the best of their ability.

4. I guess to put it in perspective
Edited on Thu Sep-02-04 11:03 AM by cornczech04
there is WAY too much "militarization" (hope I spelled THAT right)in our "pop" culture today.....references made about the military ALL over t.v. and magazines (in other words....barely concealed ad campaigns to join the military) Pop Up ALL OVER the net from military.com, etc) So I guess the "reporting for duty" was, to me, just another reference to the military...and being as I am COMPLETELY against war...well...I didn't much care for the comment based on my FEELINGS about war and the military...clear that up any? I think that Kerry and Bush are not that far apart in their politics....(in my opinion, again) but I would do just about ANYTHING to see Bush defeated...another 4 years of THAT maniac...and this country is COMPLETELY toast.....

6. I'm really sorry that you feel that way.
It has to be very disheartening to not see a difference in their politics.

I was overwhelmingly uplifted by Kerry's speech - even with references to the military. To me, it was full of hope and optimism. It was just what I wanted to hear.

One of my favorite parts was the reference to science and research where he let it be known that there is no limit to what we can achieve given the opportunity.

I really, honestly, sincerely, believe that John Kerry will be a great leader. I believe he will move our country forward in a variety of areas including education, health care, environmental concerns, and many others. I believe that the values in his heart match my values and that he will serve us admirably once again.

9. the point of it all:
When Kerry outlines his military background, it is to point out the differences between himself, a man of privelege who signed up to put himself in the line of fire for his country, and Bushwhackjob, another man of privelege who claimed to believe in the cause, but refused to put himself in harm's way. It is to point out the differences between someone who has experienced the horrors of war and will exhaust all diplomatic outlets before engaging, and the person who has a big bloodthirsty hardon for war as long as other people's kids fight it. Does that help?

5. Conventions were originally for the party faithful
and weren't televised. They used to mean something, with the delegates bickering and voting on elements of the platform the candidate would have to support.

Now the candidate pretty much dictates the platform and the convention is a big hoopla to attract undecided voters.

All in all, if you opt out of watching the convention, you won't miss too much.

11. welcome aboard, cornczech04
I agree that all the convetions are kinda annoying, but this year it seems the difference is between the Dems being mildy annoying, but with some great speeches (especially from Barak Obama) vs. the Republicans giving us a glimpse into the bowels of some strange hell.

7. RNC
You know, I haven't watched much of this convention (watched almost all of the Dem's, though), but from what I've seen, read, etc., I get the definite impression that for three days, all they've done is "slam the other side," so to speak. The tone has been VERY negative, and I haven't heard ANYTHING about their so-called "positive vision for the future." To me, this is very telling. Of course, I realize that the Bushies eat this shit up, but if I were a Republican, I would be thinking "Why are they spending so much time talking about the other guy?" It would seem that if Shrub is such a great leader, with such vision and resolve, that they would spend their moment in the sun highlighting his accomplishments and putting forth his plan for the future. Oh, wait, I forgot, he doesn't have any of those things....duh. I wil be SO glad when this dog and pony show is over.

8. SOOOO True. That Dem convention was one of the best artculations of
political philosophy I've ever seen. It was brilliant.

This Republican convention is stupid.
