What would $700 billion buy?
Full Universal non Insurance based health care - $69 billion 10%
Preventing Famine in in Africa $700 million 1%
Paying off all sub prime mortgages $435 billion 60%
Primary Election Manifesto commitments of expanding Social Housing $1 billion 0.14%

Moral cost of bailing out the banking system when everything else was "unaffordable". Priceless.

1. Moral failure
This plan is morally bankrupt; I hope Obama blasts it.

9. Why pay them off
just refinance the loans so that the people that have them have a reasonable chance of paying them off.

4. More uses for the $700 billion
Obama - Education commitments $1 billion 0.14%

For about $1 billion you could also abolish tuition fees and student loans.

You could buy the following Countries (value by GDP)

Australia       760,812
Iran             752,967
Taiwan         695,388
Netherlands   639,512

5. If the Republican argument that
letting the steel works go, was sad but right
letting jobs go overseas, was sad but right
if GM or Ford fail, the consequences would be sad but right

applies to jobs they do no like - why does it not apply to jobs they do like?

8. It is rare that I agree with nothalfbigoted
however one of their RNC bigots did say that if Bush got his way that is any decent social programme gone for the next 20 years.

The only extra term that the Republicans should have is in prison. This mess is unprecedented.

10. Unreal isn't it... yet I am spending the day arguing with DU'ers who seem to
think that McCain is qualified to be president. I mean really why wouldn't he be? Just because he rammed deregulation down everyones throat, just because he plans on doing the same thing to the health care industry, just because he doesn't have a fucking clue about anything useful to the average American doesn't mean he's not qualified to be president. :eyes:
