To the Press:Your "editorial" comments in this week's paper were a sad reminder that although the actors may change, the story stays the same. Once again, we were treated to a re-hash of Republican propaganda, innuendo and out-right nonsense, all presented as if it were sensible argument.
You had me when you stated that "She (Sarah Palin) knows foreign policy - for Pete's sake her state is the only one bordered by two countries, one of which happens to be Russia." This particular gem has been repeated over and over by Republican commentators as if it actually made any sense. However, as propagandists know so well, repeat nonsense often enough, and the public will eventually believe it.
I also was struck by the innuendo that Obama has "another wife in Kenya." It's sort of like the whispering campaign that Obama is Muslim it's an oh so clever way to label Obama as a Dangerous Black Man. Never mind that it's the most outrageous lie - it sounds like gossip, so if someone has some doubts about voting for someone who happens to be black, it plays on those doubts and helps magnify them.
I think it is very sad that the County Press sees fit to editorialize in this manner, but it is even more sad that the Republican party has once again allowed its voice to be taken over by the manipulators and propagandists. John McCain seems diminished since the convention. He once was someone who stood up for what he believed in, and sought to run a campaign in a "straight talk" way. Now he stands next to his "hot" running mate, smiling in an uncomfortable way, and repeating nonsense written for him by his handlers. Does he seem like a "maverick", or like someone who is trying too hard in a high school-ish morality play? And what does it say about his character that he is allowing this charade to go on? And more darkly, what does it say about his character that he is so eager to win the election that he will let others call important shots for him?

(Ed. Note: Barack Obama Sr. had the second wife in Kenya, about whom he neglected to tell Barack Obama Jr.'s mother before her own hasty teenaged marriage. It's just something about which those misogynistic Obama supporters who made it a point to attack Sarah Palin about her daughter's problem should be aware.)
