McCain's Greatest Folly He could have made it close, instead he got Lady De Rothschild
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 05:06 PM by grantcart

He could have picked Romney

Just think about it.

McCain/Romney

He would be saying right now: "Romney and me had big personal differences but I knew that the economic meltdown was on the way and I wanted somebody in the Whithouse who understood business from the ground up"

Romney would be out everyday with his business bullshit but it would have been intelligent bullshit.

And he would have given the conservative pundits something to talk about. They are all planning their exit path on Palin - even O'Reilly is leaving the door open.

Fiorna's statement yesterday McCain could be a CEO because he knows how to pick people and Romney was a CEO

As the economic meltdown continues and Palin's numbers continue to drop, as everyday becomes more consumed with answering for Palin's misstatements and past bad actions everyone will begin to see that when he had a chance to step up and play in the big leagues McCain went for double A ball.

He would have looked prepared and above personal rancor, he would have looked prescient. We would still have won but it would have been so much tougher.

My prediction: In a week from now the pundits will be saying;

He could have picked Romney

edited to add

Romney would have a greater EV impact to. Alaska - possibly Nevada and Michigan plus any state where they could sell the business advantage

I wonder if they are thinking of an excuse to get Palin off and get Romney on lol. I wonder if any of the children will be requiring special attention?

2. Hell, he could have stayed at the Holiday Inn too?
I can't help but think that many, many pukes are thinking (and saying behind closed doors) exactly the same thing.

4. McCain would have lost with Romney. Palin's a longshot choice to shake up the race because otherwise
McCain was set to lose. The long shot rarely wins.

15. I disagree. I think Palin energizes McCain's base and won't win independents but will help prevent
a complete slaughter which is what would have happened if the base didn't turn out for McCain and he also failed to win the independents -- this will help Republicans down ballot in "red states," which is probably why the RNC forced Palin on McCain.

but it depends on if it would've been enough to counter the Fundies who would have stayed home or voted Barr instead of voting a ticket with a Satanist on it.

10. Impulsive, bad judgment.. He wanted Ridge or Lieberman. Rove wanted Romney.
Rove pushed, McCain pushed back. Palin was the disastrous result. (per the Syd Blumenthal interview, FiredogLake).

I think you are so right about what half-way sane Republicans must be telling themselves. I go back to this quote again and again because I believe him and the wholly ironic underlying point he (Blumenthal) makes about the collapsing party:

On Palin: My information is that Karl Rove wanted Romney and pushed him. McCain pushed back. He really wanted Lieberman. That was completely out of the question. Palin is the result. One element of the Palin nomination is McCain establishing himself apart from the Bush/Rove political operation, even as his campaign manager, Steve Schmidt, is one of their creatures. From the outside, it’s often hard to figure out how vicious and divided the Republicans can be with each other.

http://firedoglake.com/2008/08/30/fdl-book-salon-welcomes-sidney-blumenthal-the-strange-death-of-republican-america-chronicles-of-a-collapsing-party/

Now he gets to live with his judgment, and I say it couldn't have happened to a more deserving Republican.

14. McCain is such a bad candidate, it wouldn't have matter who he picked....
cause he's the problem...which is what happens when you sell your soul to win anything, and are willing to pay any price.
