I couldn't believe this letter when I read it -
"Everyone's a Republican, right?
Editor of the Reformer:
Once again those of us who actually care about the future of America are thrown into the grinding jaws of the political/media melee we call a presidential election. The rolling disaster that we have created makes most of us wish for kinder days, when a promise made was actually feasible, and a candidate actually spoke the truth.
In 2008, we are faced with a true dichotomy; an empty suit full of excellent hot air, and a real American hero. In the past there would have been no contest; but in these days of super hype, internet blogs, a spectacular arena filled demonstrators and a press clamoring for the showman, reality is harder to find.
For some -- I have no such problem -- I'm a Republican, and I am a realist.
Try this quote: "From the Midwest to the South, from coast to coast, in big cities and rural communities voters have turned out in record numbers for change." Barack Obama, right?
It's actually from the "Election 2008" brochure of The Communist Party of the United States. Be careful what you wish for.
I have great faith in the people of America; a people who founded this country on good and true principles, a people who will not tolerate lies and deceit, a people who can see through the deliberate confusion sowed by our media.
Every one of you lives as a Republican -- you save money, want to keep your job, protect your loved ones, wish for lower taxes, want a good life for you and your family, accept responsibility for your own actions, and wish the government would just get off your back and let you decide how to live your own life.
So join us. Governor Douglas and the McCain/Palin team may be the only hope you have to keep what's left of your precious freedom.
Stephen McConnel,
Townshend, Sept. 9"
