Or, Does Big Media Political Coverage Suck, Which Causes Us To Be That Shallow?
I have watched too many hours of political coverage. The vast bulk of it is on really inane subjects like lipstick on a pig, campaign tactics, flag pins, and pregnant daughters. Quite frankly, I could care less.
I would like to see some coverage and discussion of the actual proposals by the candidates, particularly on the economy. However, I have yet to see any discussion of these proposals or how they differ from the policies of George Bush. The information is out there on the internet, but I have yet to see a serious discussion on a major network. Instead, it is just talking head after talking head repeating the talking points of the moment.
I can listen to the speeches of the candidates, but it would be nice to have a side by side comparison between the candidates and George Bush. However, with less than 60 days to go, no news program has presented such an analysis in the hundreds of hours of campaign coverage that we have seen.
Are we that shallow, and is Big Media merely catering to this lack of depth? Or, have we become this shallow due to Big Media’s steadfast refusal to cover any of the issues in any sort of depth?
Perhaps Democrats should just give up, and hold a Monster Truck Rally, and intersperse it with episodes of Cheaters featuring men who look like John McCain.
