"Joe Biden and I support NATO membership for Georgia and Ukraine only after all border disputes and regional flash-points are resolved, and their internal stability is demonstrated. That is a diplomatic process that may take a decade of careful work.

The McCain/Palin position of immediate NATO membership for those nations is a reckless political stunt that would increase the likelihood of nuclear war. Suggesting that there is anything commonplace about the idea of war between the Untied States and Russia is one of the most profoundly irresponsible positions ever taken by a presidential or vice-presidential candidate in our history."

(And McCain would explain he doesn't favor immediate memebership except when he does... then he's the one on the defensive.)
