http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&tab=wn&ncl=http://msnbc.msn.com/id/5877256/&scoring=d

There were only 28 articles on this topic 2 hours ago. Keep your fingers crossed, cuz if this starts to get major exposure and the dems can somehow come up with a soundbite meme on this topic, this could be the Bush bouncekiller....

1. CNN
was pounding away at it today. It seems that they are a tad pissed over it. They were allowing some negative shit to be said about the republicans.

is it is timely, has a visual, and has potential repurcussions. Also, if you dig deep enough, it links back to Karl Rove.

17. For it to happen on the floor of the convention

Tells us that it was approved at the top.
Either that or they have no control over the delegates.

There is no way that this smear could continue unless they approved.
No way,no way!

23. A delegate is a representative of the party
and thus, anything the delegate does is also representative of the party. There isn't 'one person's action' this is 'a Republican delegate's action'.

We need to keep pushing this. It is a great packaged story.

6. Toss in Walt Starr's investigative material on Ribbongate
and you have a compelling story that Republicans don't really have that much respect for Vets and the honors they receive in line of service. To Republicans the medals are props.

13.  I hope they keep on wearing them.
I think it shows the real face of the GOP. It's the closest these Chickenhawks will ever come to a Purple Heart. So let'em keep on wearing them and laughing at combat wounded Vets. It's the real undisguised face of the GOP. A despicable bunch of cowards who run when they're called on to serve and mock those that have sacrificed and suffered for our country.

33. No they stopped that - but fortunately several good pics were taken
so it is a case of the cat out of the bag now. Only a rapid apology by Bush himself can kill it now and it may be too late for that - as Scotty already had a chance to do it today and he feigned ignorance. I say feigned because there is no way the WH staff has not discussed this. They were hoping it would fizzle. Look for some official statement this afternoon I would guess - but probably not from Bush.

16. Any chance of this getting on Armed Forces Radio?
They carry Rush to the troops. What excuse are they gonna use for banning news of how GOP Party Go-ers are mocking wounds taken in service to the nation?

And let's not forget, there are moves afoot to change how military votes get counted. Where is that link about them going to the Pentagon now instead of the usual absentee ballots to the home counties method?

So the people fighting the Chicken Hawk's war get mocked AND disenfranchised? We gotta get some brass involved in these issues. Surly there is somebody still left in the upper tier of the armed forces who thinks the enlisted personnel deserve a bit of respect!

20. It's a violation of federal law to display a phony purple heart...

...it is a punishable federal offense to possess any military medal or medal certificate that you fraudulently claim you are the official recipient of. Anyone who falsely misrepresents or claims they are the legal recipient of a United States or foreign military medal or certificate is subject to severe prosecution and penalty. Family members and collectors may legally possess military medals and certificates authorized or awarded to legal recipients. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is authorized by Congress to investigate any case of military medal misrepresentation. The United States Attorneys Office under the United States Justice Department is authorized by Congress to prosecute cases of military medal defalcation to the fullest extent of current law.

25. Great....now we're doing another GOP ad....
Does no one get this? If we hadn't made a fuss there wouldn't be any news over this. Full stop.
Dealt with two crews of IUPAT guys today, started discussing politics, the convention etc No one actually watched, but they heard the story on the radio and thought the bandaids were FUNNY!!!

These are guys who haven't followed the news much, but went oh yeah....the Kerry awards for bandaid cuts. I pointed out that this wasn't accurate...so now they think it's even funnier. The average joe or joanne doesn't care that much, except when we make a fuss does it become news.
Okay, this is my second post in about two weeks...maybe I can get through this after all. Two weeks from now, I want to hear discussions about issues not smears.

29. lurking freepers have posted that is juvenille of us to complain
I got a reply from someone(10 posts) oh, come on this is so juvenile to critisize it, it was meant at Kerry, "we're" wasting energy

he must have saw my letter I posted and sent to crossfire and NPR

I was very troubled and disturbed this morning to learn that many delegates at the GOP convention are wearing purple bandages with purple hearts on them. Nearly 7000 soldiers have been wounded in Iraq and over 1000 have died. This band-aid mocking the purple heart is the most appalling show of disrespect I have ever seen in my lifetime. How can anyone hold up a sign stating "We support our troops" while simultaneously mocking those soldiers that have been killed or wounded in Iraq? The soldiers in Iraq are brave simply by having the courage to be in Iraq. Dozens of attacks occur on a daily basis and more than two Americans, on average, are dying per day. Americans are coming home wounded or dead, and whether they got their arm blown off by an RPG or scratched by the shrapnel that killed their buddy, no American should mock their bravery or courage. Political expediency does not justify the mockery of our nation's soldiers. The ends do not justify the means. No weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq. No factories or labs that may have made WMDs have been found. No trucks or barrels which would need to number in the thousands(to equal the claim in Mr. Bush's SOTU speech) have been found buried someplace in Iraq and no evidence of where thousands of trucks or barrels are buried have been found, despite the inhumane torture of thousands of Iraqis. Our neighbors, our sons, our daughters, our friends, our souls are in Iraq. They are surviving in unbearable heat, they are being wounded and killed on a daily basis and they are fighting for the cause of democracy, or so we're told, in the Middle East. They were sent to forcibly topple the government of Saddam Hussein and recover and secure WMDs so that they do not get into the hands of terrorists. It has been over 18 months since the invasion, the old government has been dissolved, no WMD's have been recovered and yet our soldiers continue to fight and die in Iraq. These are very brave men, all of the wounded deserve a Purple Heart and to those that feel compelled to mock the medal, one question, Have you no shame?
