This is getting real ugly. I just fired off an email to
my fundie BIL after he sent me an email full of lies comparing McCain and Obama's policies. Actually it was two emails. The first one said this is such bullshit take me off your email list. But as I continued to fume, I went to factcheck.org, found the truth and fired off that to him. This was a chain email so it didn't go just to him--guess they won't be coming over for Thanksgiving this year:eyes:

Enough. I usually just ignore his right wing trash, to keep the peace, but ENOUGH! :argh:

1. You "ignore his right wing trash, to keep the peace?"

Well, see, that's been part of the problem...

3. we can choose our friends, but not our family.
I have fundy freaks in my family that I have to ignore to keep the piece, so I completely understand where b_r is coming from.

6. I do also. My dear sister and her family.
I won't lose my sister, niece and nephews over political discussion. My family can't be replaced ever....I'm getting older and I want their love.

19. Pamela, I am simple and direct. HE doesn't get it.
He is the one who gets heated while I try to calm things. No more. I will not be bullied by someone who is too fucking dumb to think for themselves. NO MORE!

26. Exactly!
I used to have a right wing friend who's method of ending political discussions he'd started was to glare at me and ask, "Are you saying I'm a RACIST," giving every indication of exploding if I dared to answer "yes."

Finally, I did. I didn't shout, I didn't even raise my voice. I just said simply, "yes, if that is what you believe, you are a racist." He didn't explode. He was literally speechless that I'd dared to say such a thing.

And he stopped throwing his crap at me.

Personally, I'd get a dog.

28. If they bring it up it is fair game. Truth can be painful but it doesn't have to be.
Which is to say you can't control how someone receives the truth, only how you deliver it.

But deliver it you must, or become an enabler. Those are your only choices.

12. actually, he's really a nice guy...believe it or not...
but his views sound like he picked them up right off of FOX news. Same exact talking points. He's very naive and my sister and him do not discuss politics because she is an independent and they get heated.

18. Please, I'm a southerner. I've known lots of very nice racists, bigots, and others
whose political views were atrocious. And I long ago stopped biting my tongue around them when THEY brought up politics. You don't have to be nasty. Just direct and to the point.

22. because he DID get them right off faux news!
my ex-pastor that I keep in touch with, has NEVER acted so hysterical about an election as this one. All I hear from him now is ABORTION ABORTION ABORTION... he clearly is a focus on the family listener and his daughter said they watch Fox News only.... sigh... amazing how people can believe the shit they show on the TV just because it's ON the TV!

27. Sounds like my husband, this is a man who does not hesitate to give money
to anyone that asks, be they a relative or a complete stranger no matter the circumstances and yet.....you just cannot talk about his beloved republican party to him in any way shape or form because he will just go balistic...he is an avid faux watcher and he acts as they do, with anger and threats...very strange...last week he threw my laptop on the floor with brute force and smashed it to pieces simply because I called mcbush and palin liars...it was all that I said...

My response was, okay, you clean it up and I'll just get another one...took him around an hour to apologize and admit how stupid that was to do....didn't bother me, he had to buy another one though he wanted to give me his...the point is...watching that channel incites violence toward anyone who does not agree and they should be called on such repeatedly..they are dividers and haters and should never be taken seriously..in my mind they are very akin to terrorists simply because they obviously find violence and rage to be an effective way to ensure people remain scared of them....

2. I think that what upsets us even more about our relatives who are
blinded, is that we're faced with the realization about what kind of people they truly ARE. Closed-minded, whatever. Bigoted. We learn a lot and it's actually kind of sad.

I rarely send anything and if I do, I send it to my sister email address and not their joint account. But he's always sending me trash shit. My husband rolls his eyes when he sees me checking my email because he knows there's usually a firestorm waiting for me there.

10. Thank You for "Getting It" !!!
This has been Obama's message all along. He can't fight the racism. But we can. By talking to OUR family, friends, neighbors, co-workers. Because in some cases, WE have more clout with these people than HE does.

At some point, more people will get it. And stop being angry with Obama, who cannot eradicate racism single handedly.

Either WE elect him, or WE don't.

11. well peeps
my husband got tired of this shit too...so I started saving the fun pics and slogans from DU and EVERY day, he sends all the freepers and dems in his addy book ONE email with one of those things on it. He also adds one person he doesn't remember (we are in business where we work with people from all over the country and have tons of people in addy book we don't remember).

This cracks me up every night.

I enjoy it immensely and no one has had the courage to write back and object! they don't like their own game being played back.

He also replies ALL to their ignorant emails, telling them they are low information voters and to get a clue. then he lists facts. they've been embarrassed and that was satisfying.

they do understand the shame of failure and being wrong and ignorant.

fighting terrorism one repuke at a time

matter. They know I'm an Obama supporter and yet continually send me lies and b.s. No one ever replies back to me when I call them out on it.

from either side. These crappy chain letters and garbage, left as well as right clog email and make it impossible for me to read "real" email. And it makes candidate ifo become tarred with the same brush as all the other garbage. It is really annoying!
