OMG, my professor just totally slammed Palin in my class tonight!
It happened in my Psychology of Law class, where we were talking about the rule of facts vs. rheutoric in society and the law. My professor brought up Palin's speech last night, then hit on her apparent denial of Global Warming. And people LAUGHED; in fact, the girl next to me was whispering to her friend, "I HATE her!"

The same thing happened a couple days ago when Bush was mentioned, yet whenever Obama is brought up, it never seems to happen. And this is here in AZ! :D

Ahh, things like this make me feel that much more enthusiastic...and I was enthusiastic to begin with! :)

24. Nah -- Cal Bear, here ...
But, I'm hoping my kids will become Ducks. In-state tuition and all, and Eugene is cool! Corvallis ... not so much. :)

We took my (middle school) son to see the campus this summer and he freakin' LOVED it! Never too young to plant that seed.

Go Ducks! :toast:

25. Cal's respectable. In the spring of 1967,
I visited two campuses: Berzerkley and Eugene. I thought, academically and culturally, they were very similar. One difference was ultimately dispositive: their quads. Cal's were substantially concrete. Oregon's, all turf and trees. Well, there was the issue that Cal required two years of foreign language for admission. My high school had only one year of Spanish - that's it (I graduated third in my class and wasn't in the top 10%). I could have challenged the second year and tested for admission, I think; but, being a tree hugger even then, I had to opt for vegemaniacs. There are no former Ducks...only dead ones.

35. I really loved and love Berkeley
That town was sort of magical for me to live in. The hills and the sweeping views of the Bay and San Francisco with the fog rolling in through the Golden Gate -- to die for. But, I have to say, they just keep building and building and cramming more and more stuff on that campus, and a lot of it doesn't seem to try to relate to the rest of the buildings architecturally. There are hardly any wooded groves or open spaces left. It's too bad. U. of Oregon, on the other hand, doesn't have the amazing views, but the campus has beautiful open green spaces and shade trees. When we were there, there were flowers blooming everywhere.

3. I don't know a single person who actually likes Palin
Of course, I don't really hang out with the fundie crowd, which seems to be her ONLY base of support. Even a lot of rethugs can't stand her.

Good to see that the rethugs are a national laughingstock! Might want to be careful, though. You never know, there could be some squirrelly Young Rethug sitting in the back of the classroom with his digital recorder, just waiting for the professor to say something that he could fire off to Hannity.

5. Good that they don't like Palin...the important thing is
to ask them ARE YOU REGISTERED TO VOTE? So many students are not registered in the town where they attend college and that is a shame.

Disliking McBush/Palin does no good if one cannot VOTE against them on Nov 4.

with over 110 people in attendance, most of whom were either already registered to vote or currently registering. We're also holding voter drives all around the area. People are really fired up here so why they'd do all that and NOT vote...well, that's beyond me. But one cannot underestimate the importance of reminding them! :D

8. You just make sure to get out the vote there in AZ...
...if your younger generation can come out and vote for REAL CHANGE, than we all can have a better future. It's in your hands. Everyone must take the responsibility for this election.

Heck, you 'kids' could even turn AZ around into a BLUE state, if you get enough people out, McCain will lose his home state. That would be a feat in and of itself.

9. Oh that's my DREAM..and our goal! ;)
The race here is surprisingly close considering McCain has been "representing" AZ for like 26 years. I think the last poll I saw had it within 10 points. And as I remember, he just barely squeaked by in the Republican primary here..I think Mittens was within just a few points. NOT very promising for someone who's been here so long. But maybe if he spent more time here, he wouldn't be having this problem. I think the last time he was here in Tucson was like 1997..

If we can at least keep it close here, I'll be happy. But I'd LOVE to humiliate him here, as well as go Blue. That's why I plan on volunteering hardcore in the weeks ahead! :D

13. funny, same with my professor
Edited on Thu Sep-04-08 08:18 PM by mynameisdane
in my Media in Politics course, we watched the MSNBC Noonan video that leaked the other day to discuss the creation of on on-air identity that has to be maintained even in the face of facts. Noonan spoke as her real self, even though her on-air personality had to pretend believe the opposite. Of course, her reporting ends up redefining reality, and BAM--somehow Palin is qualified. In spite of the fact that they don't personally believe it, the commentator can make a false story fact. People depend on them all too often to write history.

I'm happy I went to class high.

EDIT: Oh yeah...he asked by show of hands who actually thought Sarah Fucking Palin was qualified to run the country.....and.....(crickets)....0 of 100 (or so) hands.

14. good point
for those of you in school, I know that for instance our team can't go to the college in town and register people- so if you are in school, it would rock if you called your local obama office (national number can get you in touch with right people) and ask them how you can either register people to vote OR get a box dropped off for your classroom, dorm, whatever.

We are doing boxes in bigger places.

It's too bad that most college students are out of state and can't vote! you guys could mobilize the other students! (you can also get a credit for your resume as volunteer if you register others)

15. I'm not going to speak for everywhere, but in Minnesota and Montana
out of state students can vote.

In Minnesota there is same day registration, just be sure you have the right ID, register early for security.

In Montana, two years ago, my daughter registered the day before the election, and even could vote early. She helped John Tester get elected.

17. that is interesting-- one reason why it's so important to know
your state's rules. here in Georgia you can't vote unless you have a georgia license or georgia ID, along with being registered here.

You make a really good point about how important it is to know your state's rules and pass those on to others. thanks for the heads up!

Unfortunately, a lot of working class guys who plan on not voting for Sen. Obama simply because they listen and believe the hateful lies and propaganda by the Republican Machine. We will need the difference made up by the young people, and everyone else. Thanks for the post!

Even a dem loss by less than a percent would be a slam in Grumpy McSame's face.

So imagine a win... we can do it.

I saw that the snow birds were starting to arrive. Now I don't know if they are mostly Republicans, but seeing their Blue State plates makes me hopeful. Hopeful that they registered to vote here (since they are here by November usually).

I don't hope we'll take out Arpaio, even my wife loves him, although she is pro-Obama.

and i asked my students today (i told them i wasn't naming names) whether politicians have any obligation at all to be honest. the discussion quickly devolved into all kinds of ripping on the hypocrisy of the republican convention. these kids know they're being lied to. i'm encouraged because this area is not especially progressive in its politics.
