Obama to Appear on Fox on Thursday Night
By JEFF ZELENY
CHICAGO — Before Senator John McCain delivers his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, Senator Barack Obama will make a marquee appearance of his own.

Call it counter-intuitive. He will appear on “The O’Reilly Factor” on Fox News Channel.

For Mr. Obama, it will be the first time in his presidential candidacy that he’s on Bill O’Reilly’s prime-time program. The appearance is intended to put Mr. Obama before a conservative audience, one week after drawing 40 million TV viewers at his own acceptance speech.

Mr. Obama has had a strained history with the network, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch. Is this a sign of burying the hatchet or simply politically smart programming? Stay tuned.

1. THAT is a brilliant strategy. No better time to appear, I say.

3. Read the quote in the OP
the appearance will be BEFORE the speech. Did you really believe that Fox will not carry McCain's speech live and will have Barack instead? Really believed that?

5. Sigh indeed :-)
He is at the same time as Olberman. I think this will be one time when his ratings will indeed go through the roof.

7. They won't be able to compare his ratings to Olbermann. Countdown is pre-empted
tonight.

6. This is a really good move by Obama.
He'll hold his own against dumbass. And I think there will be a large audience to see this.

I keep finding myself more and more impressed with the Obama/Biden campaign.

16. Also consider the fact that McCain has been Hiding from the Media Since Aug 13th

This Head on Directness will be great.
And let's face it Obama has to hit the COnservative Base. McCain doesn't have a chance of getting the DEM Base with the Imitation Barbie doll.
But the Repuke Base still can't escape that fact they financially Bush's policies have sucked, and if All McCain can do i the Same. there may be quite a few looking for some relief
and they know they will not get it with McPOW

8. It's brilliant because the same audience will see Obama,
And then see McCain. Hopefully there are a lot of indies and Reagon Dems in that audience and the comparison will be stark and in Obama's favor.

10. I actually think O'Reilly will be on his best behavior for the interview
They'll just go back to beating up on Obama after the interview.

12. I am sure Obama will be brilliant!
I will have to watch that one! I have never watched Bill-O before but it will be fun to see Obama take him on-not that anyone on Fox will admit that Obama spanked him.

14. Obama is going to totally outclass O'Lielly.
I have no worries at all about this. (although I don't know if I have a strong enough stomach to watch Billo, even so)

15. I said this the other day and I'll say it again.
I hope it's done live (but I doubt it) so O'Liely can't edit Obama's responses. Or else, have someone on Obama's staff record it as well so that when Faux tries to manipulate it, they can counter with the actual footage.
