Both Reagan in 84 and Clinton in 96 had 21 point leads at this time.

Both Reagan in 84 and Clinton in 96 had 21 point leads at this time for there re-election. Nixon lead in his re-election year at this time by 28 points. Johnson lead at this time in his re-election year by 30. Eisenhour lead by 9. Carter and Reagan tied 39-39(Carter lost),Bush only tide.

That was a three way race with a serious contender in Perot. Even the fact that Clinton the challeger was ahead it shows if you are an incumbent and are tide at this time in the election you are in serious trouble. Also Ford was tide with Carter at this point and Ford lost. history is deffinitly on Kerry's side.
