Another Palin theory: What if none of the major candidates passed vetting or moved polls?
I can imagine all of them having skeletons in their closet that would fall out or even more likely, when private polling and focus groups were done, the candidates that were acceptable to the religious right were repugnant to swing voters or at least failed to add anything.

Palin is perfect for uninformed swing voters. Karl Rove said every political event should work on TV with the volume turned down.

Someone walking by a TV and not stopping to listen to what's being said (which aint much anyway), would see that McCain picked a woman who is also a mom, and think "Oh, it would be nice to have a mom running things," and that would be the depth of their thoughts.

They would not scratch the surface and see that she is a far right ideologue, but the far right would know she is one of them and that John McCain is basically staying alive with spit and duct tape like Dick Cheney.

4. Anyone who thinks, "Oh, it would be nice to have a mom running things"
when they make their decision on who to vote for in a presidential election would probably have been voting Republican anyway.
