Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 09:22 AM by Peregrine Took
I hear she is bright, obviously ambitious and she is like Blessed Mother to fundie Catholics and the other fundies worship her, too, and she is pro gun and drilling.

She will really mobilize them to get out the vote for her.

And that so called scandal when she got the state trooper ex-brother in law fired can be explained away as he was an abusive husband to her sister and actually tasered their kids. Most folks would agree with his being fired.

Also she just had a Down's syndrome baby and has a ton of other kids. Biden couldn't really go on the attack with her as he would appear to me a bully.

40. I worked in the finanacial services industry at the time
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 09:41 AM by slackmaster
The Savings and Loan crisis was already apparent to people in the business at the time of the 1988 election. The Soviet Union was in a death spiral, and there was great concern about the disposition of its nuclear weapons.

Nobody was talking about global warming at the time, but do you honestly both grasp the enormity of the situation and believe that many people think our selection of a US President is going to have any impact on it?

I know that "It's the economy, stupd" didn't come into play until the 1992 election, but the writing was already on the wall in 1988.

This gives them something to get excited for. Discount it all you want, it's exciting for them and that could close the enthusiasm gap.

12. not afraid of her at all
McCain is too old to pick someone like her. he needed to go with someone that people would feel comfortable with as President if something were to happen to him where he could no longer serve. someone like Biden.

people still have questions about Obama's experience but compared to Palin they most likely feel comfortable with him as President. they know he is not like Quayle. and he has been campaigning for over a year.

Palin will only have 2 months. it just wont happen. and she will be going up against BIDEN . justnot going to happen. people who might otherwise have supported Mccain might not do so at the thought that if he were to die she would become president.

16. I don't think so. Fundies don't believe in female leaders.
Fundy churches don't allow women to hold leadership positions. They believe that women should be subordinate to men in all ways. Most fundies don't allow their wives to work outside the home. No matter what they say, they are going to have a real problem voting for a female VP.

All this does is erode McCain's base. He already has the fundy vote. Picking a woman would lose him some fundy votes. They'd just stay home.

It isn't Palin.

17. This pick is a joke
All across America, people will be uttering the phrase "who?" today. McCain is 72, does anyone honestly think this woman is capable of being president in the (fairly) likely event that he dies or is incpacitated during his first term?

You're also forgetting the legions of fundies who believe women should be seen and NOT HEARD.

Does it limit how nasty Joe can be? Probably. But Joe is the kind of guy fully capable of making her look like the nobody she is without being nasty.

This is a GREAT day for Obama. A great day.

22. The number one job of VP
is to be able to step in and serve as president should the need arise. Given McCain's age and health issues, there is a good chance that need will arise. There is no way they will be able to argue that Palin is ready to be president. She has ZERO foreign policy experience. She has a couple of years being governor of a state with only about 680,000 people. Thats it.

Biden on the Catholic and experience side -- most Catholics aren't fundies. her lack of experience nullifies mccain's arguments for experience. Hillary will devastate her on women's issues. Hillary will eat moose meat and it won't be pretty for Palin. I can hear Hillary saying, "Come to Mamma, babycakes".

31. Biden will take her down
during a debate. Not to mention, McCain will get knocked down on the experience crap. We have been hearing for months now that experience matters and that flip flop meme will come back to haunt McCain. I don't think Biden would have one single problem getting at her during a debate. They may try this "she is a womam" crap but I don't think people are falling for that mess. The economic situation in this country is serious. McCain picking a former beauty queen, junior, politician when he is so old is not going to set well with quite a few people. Not to mention the huge block of repigs who are just down right sexist including women repigs. I will not underestimate her by any means but I will not undestimate the knuckle draggers that call the repig party home. That Bob Barr character may be popular this year.

Lack of foreign policy experience and ask her if she would be willing to work for 70% less than any other VP so she can stand in solidarity with her 'sisters'.

She has a new born with a disability in addition to other minor children; school's starting soon (if it hasn't already) and she'd have to campaign across the country. I'm sorry but McCain is beyond desperate if he chooses her.
