Part of your duty in electing Obama should include complaining to the Associated Press RIGHT NOW!
Guys and gals, Keith O. just brought to our attention an AP article by Charles Babington that clearly lies about Obama's speech.

If you're reading this thread, you have time to copy and paste [email protected] and lift your fingers to your keys and BITCH TO THE AP! Lots of people receive their news via newspaper, and we have to hold them accountable. Here is what Babington wrote, and below is my e-mail to the AP.

They also have a phone number: 1-212-621-1500

Fill up their mailbox! We need to hold the press as accountable as any politician!

Analysis: Obama spares details, keeps up attacks

DENVER (AP) -- Barack Obama, whose campaign theme is "change we can believe in," promised Thursday to "spell out exactly what that change would mean."

But instead of dwelling on specifics, he laced the crowning speech of his long campaign with the type of rhetorical flourishes that Republicans mock and the attacks on John McCain that Democrats cheer. The country saw a candidate confident in his existing campaign formula: tie McCain tightly to President Bush, and remind voters why they are unhappy with the incumbent.

Of course, no candidate can outline every initiative in a 35-minute speech - especially one that also must inspire voters, acknowledge key friends, and toss in some autobiography for the newly-interested. And Obama did touch on nitty-gritty subjects, such as the capital gains tax and biofuel investments.

To the AP:

Shame on you for sending this baseless story out to America's newspapers. Babington's story claimed, "But instead of dwelling on specifics, he laced the crowning speech of his long campaign with the type of rhetorical flourishes that Republicans mock and the attacks on John McCain that Democrats cheer."

Those are lies. I don't know what speech Charles Babington watched tonight. The majority of Obama's speech included specific policy stances, numbers, and plans. The speech, which Babington says included no specifics, includes this quote from Obama: "So let me spell out exactly what that change would mean if I am president."

Our democracy depends upon a free and independent press. The AP should offer a retraction of this story as well as an apology to the Obama campaign. The McCain campaign will already have its day by naming the VP pick. The Associated Press doesn't have to help them.

Pissed off,

Kris Olson

2. The AP doesn't care -- you don't pay their bills.
Complain to your local newspaper which pays for AP content. They're the ones AP will listen to.

4. Good point. Use
references to Jayson Blair and Stephen Glass. Ask if that is the kind of journalist they want in their paper.

9. I think it's time someone formed an unbiased news service
UPI is moonified and AP isn't even hiding their bias any more. I don't want a news service that carries our water, just one that reports the raw news without commentary. I'd start one up if people would report news content into me!

17. Rupert Murdock joined the AP Board of Directors in April 2008
which is why we're seeing the Fox News type of reporting from the AP. Contact your local papers as well as the biggies and let them know that as long as they run Rupert Murdock opinions masquerading as News you won't buy their paper.

15. No! I wanted to go but...
...I had to work. I really, really wish I had called in! I did get to watch it here at work, but it would have been soooo much more fun to have watched it with fellow democrats. I had to temper my enthusiasm here at work.

16. If you call the number in my original post, you will get someone answering calls.
Tell the guy who answers that you'd like to complain about Charles Babington's story and he'll direct you to the proper mailbox.

He said that the AP had received lots of calls tonight. Keep it up, folks!

19. Don't write the AP, write the local paper that carries AP
If you write quick enough, they could choose to not run the AP story.

Kathleen Carroll (Fournier’s boss) at [email protected] or (212) 621-1500. Oh, and they also made Crooks and Liars.com with their biased stories! LOL. Here's a link - http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/08/23/aps-ron-fournier-strikes-again-writes-hit-piece-on-obamas-vp-pick/

If you can afford the long distance fees, call them, too. I spoke to a human, and you'll probably at least get the chance to leave a message.

And others have made a good point: If your local paper runs AP stories, contact them, as well, preferably before the presses run.

24. Contact Yahoo too
They put the AP's biased Right Wing Opinion on their front page every day and pass it off as real news. I wrote them a scathing email earlier tonight about the AP's biased opinion written as "news" and told them there'd be a boycott against them if they continued to use the AP smear news on their front page. I use Yahoo as my home page as I'm sure many of you do, Write Yahoo and demand they not use AP Repuke Opinion as news anymore.

31. My concluding paragraph noted
that if Babbington's babble is the kind of crap the AP stands behind, that I thought no newspaper should pay subscription fees for the same kind of writing that is usually scraped off the sides of city buses.

(well, the language was more proper, but the concluding zinger was there).
