3. okay...
An extremely talented, transcendent figure who changed the face and sound of rock and roll forever versus a somewhat mediocre band who were formed for a tv series.

7. essentially, yeah.
I also think Obama's speech tonight may be "one for the history books" and, while I may be proven wrong, I consider him in the same light as Dr. King and Hendrix and even Bruce Lee in that they were individuals who shattered boundaries and introduced new paradigms.

4. That example would've worked four years ago.
Today, Obama is THE headliner.

9. funny thing is, I was.
they were the world to me when I was five. In '67 I got a big cardboard box, wrote "To Mickey, Peter, Michael and Davy" on it and was going to mail myself to them.

10. I was too young at the time. But what I love now is the stuff they did themselves
Everything from Headquarters all the way to Head.

They're not mediocre to me.

16. Horrible analogy if you thing of it
From news accounts of the time it was an awful experience for Hendrix. The people who bought the tickets were Monkees fans and by at large didn't know (or appreciate)Hendrix. So, if you are equating Obama to Hendrix and McCain to the Monkees, this is not good. If you meant Gore to Obama - you are dissing both of them. Gore on popularity; Obama on lack of originality.
