Was Hilary's speech TOO good?
Seriously, I can't help but feel that she hit this so far out of the park, and was so inspirational that people may connect more with the messenger than the message. I wonder if it will make some supporters feel even more cheated out of a great president.

Anyway, I'm NOT criticizing her, I am simply wondering how this is effecting the mentality of PUMAs in general. If this really woke them up.

I loved her line about "Did you do this for ME or did you do this for ..."

39. yes,her speech was very good
I think those who support Hillary will realize we all must unite now. NO WAY NO HOW NO MC CAIN, I thought that was a pretty good line, and also about the GOP Convention being in the Twin Cities, because you cannot tell Bush and McCain apart, now that was pretty good.

5. Hillary's good, no doubt of that.
But Barack has a talent for hitting big speeches straight out of the park too--so to suggest that he would come up short on what could be the biggest night of his life (unless he wins the Presidency) is ludicrous.

10. No, she was just fine. Lovely speech in support of Obama.
You said it yourself-- she told her supporters to get going for Obama.

The speech was well done but not absolutely awe inspiring. So there's no need to worry about her supporters or others having buyers' remorse. If that happens, it will be as things are now, with Republican pushing to maximize every sniff of friction.

19. Personally - I liked Michelle Obama's a LOT more...because it was personal...
all I got from CLinton was that Obama is a democrat - so vote for him, she did a good job making the case for the generic "democrat"...but people go on character issues when they are choosing a president - NOT on the democrat vs. the republican...I know everyone is singing kumbya right now, Hillary is wonderful, I admit, she gave a good speech, it had some good lines, but without defining Obama's character, it will not help him - that is the whole reason why McCain is going up in the polls - not because he has been bashing Obama's policies, but because he has been bashing Obama's character...

Clinton spent 2 months bashing his character also, and there was nothing personal here, related to Obama, as to why her supporters should want to vote for him...

IMO - of course...and I know I'll get cussed out for saying it, but I don't care, I've been on this site since 2002, I've worked my ass off for all kinds of Democrats, but I don't see how this was so wonderful for Obama...

22. Yes...but, Hillary attacked his character - a lot - during the primaries...
it would have been nice to hear her say something complimentary about him - personally - instead of just generic democratic policies...most people (unfortunately) dont vote on policies, they vote on character...I thought it was striking that Clinton couldn't come up with one good thing to say about Obama's character in the speech...whereas he, and Michelle, and Biden, have gone out of their way to compliment hers...

45. i dont think she needed to do that
Her whole anti-Puma thing said it all. About how for her, it was about ideas, not ego's, and that Obama and her share the same ideas.

It was a genuine plea to her supporters to vote for Obama.

Personally, I don't think it was her place to talk to his character. This was a conciliatory speech, and as one, she knew her job was to unite the party, and that it was now or never.

Personally, I think that despite the bitter campaign, and the failure to get out until the bitter end, this is the ticket for future presidential aspirations for her.

Tonight was define the Democrats and take some swings at McCain, and set Hillary up for her homerun. It was not the game winning run, just the homerun she needed to hit. I expect we'll hear more about Obama tomorrow and especially Thursday.

29. IMO it wasn't her job to tell her supporters about his character
Her job was to get her supporters that were on the fence to give the guy a look. Michelle, Joe and Barack himself can speak of his character. Hillary did exactly what she needed to and what was probably expected of her. Barack's folks saw her speech before hand and said they were very pleased with it.

Besides, if Hillary has to tell her supporters about Obama's character at this late date, then he hasn't done his job. I was a Hillary supporter (although I'm a Dem party supporter first and foremost) so I didn't know much about Barack other than he talked so much about hope and change that I got tired of hearing those words but when Hillary says she supports Obama, then I feel better about Obama. I think true Hillary supporters are much the same.

I'm learning more about Barack so I can feel more confidence in him as a candidate but having Joe beside him really makes me much more excited about this ticket.

30. The speech frustrated me as a Hillary supporter
It's like when I used to bet horses, and my horse ran second after getting into all type of self-inflicted problems during the race, but after the wire you knew damn well he was the best animal in the race.

Hillary won virtually every debate yet Obama was preferred. Tough to take.

But let's be real. Tomorrow night we will be focusing on something else. It literally will be more difficult to remember the specifics of Hillary's speech and what we thought about it. New variables in place, and in politics everyone thrills to over react to recency. By Thursday night Hillary's speech will be deemed inferior to Obama's, even if Obama merely recites the phone book. That's the way these things work.

35. You're asking "let's be real" after the first two paragraphs of your post?
Let's be real is right.

Obama blew her away in every aspect of the primaries.

I'm so sick of this she "virtually won but they gave it to Obama" revisionist malarkey. There was no photo finish here.

As for the public's difficulty to remember specifics, trust me, I have no doubt that there will be a few politicians counting on this in 2012.

Sorry for your frustration. That's the way these things work.

34. yes, Hillary is "too good"
That's why the rethugs have thrown everything they have at her and smeared her in every way imaginable, and many unimaginable, for the last 16 years. To the point where many dems bought their lies and bullshit.

However, it never occurred to the rethugs that there could possibly be anyone else just as good as Hillary. That's because they're so incompetent and inept that they figure Hillary's quality is pure luck, just like their being born to wealth and privilege. As opposed to Hillary's quality being based on intelligence and talent combined with hard work.

So now they're a bit off balance. They don't know what to do when they've invested so much in destroying the only person of Hillary's quality...when out of the dem woodwork appears another one.

My long-winded point being that Obama will do just fine on Thursday. He's been against this challenge before, only in the past it was how to outdo his last "greatest speech." He won't be "upstaged" by Hillary, he won't be "upstaged" by Bill, and he won't even be "upstaged" by his previous great speeches.

On the other hand, the almighty just *may* give the rethugs the convention rain they prayed for. Just the "wrong" convention! And much as I don't want to see NO drowining again, the thought of the MSM struggling with an embarrassment of riches -- do we cover our corporate masters or the hurricane. And end up with a split screen image of rethugs partying while the masses struggle...

38. PUMA is
a subversive Republican operation, so it is a waste of time to consider what they think (all 5 members). This post is also a complete waste. It shows a true pathology within the party regarding the Clintons; as though it is more important to absolutely destroy Hillary than the real enemy, McCain. Was it too good? Give me a fucking break! Shouldn't we be concentrating on things more important? You know, like McCain and winning? What's the next one going to be about? Perhaps about the way Hillary holds her teacup and how that shows her poor upbringing? I was hoping this crap would be over with after the primaries but no, some (on both sides) just can't let it go. Oh, the frustration! This election is not in the bag.

Listen, I am FAR from being a Hillary fan. Ask anyone here, LOL. But last night, I said to myself I want to listen to this speech with as little bias as is humanly possible. I want to really HEAR what she has to say and not have it colored by my less than positive feelings about HER.

I'm happy to say I did it and I'm happy to say she made it awfully easy to do because it WAS so fantastic.

Too good? Geez Louise. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. No such thing as too good when we have the mainstream media still trying to foment division.
