"Passed Over" - racial subtext?
Discussed this on another thread, but I think it deserves discussion on its own.

McCain has a new ad out about how Obama "passed over" Hillary. A lot of people, I think rightly, think that one reason this was made is as a disruption for Dems as we go into the convention - pitting Hillary supporters against Obama, etc.

I think that's true, but I think the ad also has a racial subtext which isn't too hard to see if you watch out for it.

Here's the ad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NrQ36Djf2E

Note how at about the 00:15 mark, we see Hillary with her arm up. She's waving, but the brain could also interpret it as a self-defense gesture. That side of the screen darkens. The voice-over (soft, white, female voice) says "ATTACKS" (referring to Obama), and then we see Hillary in a dark shot (black background), looking vulnerable as she talksabout Obama being negative. Fade to black, and then Obama's face looking aggressive, with the word HURT on the screen.

Or am I reading too much into it?

1. She was an "also ran". It's what happens to "also rans." Do they all have
a special prerogative? Or is it just Hillary?

4. They know what they are doing. These are the people that brought us Mccain's "black" children,

the "War on Terror," the Death Tax, the Clear Skies Initiative, Frank Luntz and Karl Rove.

Subconsious fear is their stock in trade--they have nothing to offer, so they scare.

I'm no tin foil hatter by any means (the dye job, yanno), but I've watched Frank Luntz work with a sort of begrudging respect. Manipulation is all they have.

It's a racist, sexist ad--it's meant to be--but if they get called on it, guess what? YOU are paranoid...

And don't forget, John McCain lost track of what "race" meant as a POW. :eyes:

5. I don't think so...
I don't think it's handled much differently than if the target had been Biden or Dodd.

Prior ads have been intentionally sub-texted, IMO.
