I know that people here think Obama can do no wrong but these leaks and the Secret Service......
going to Bidens house have ruined the thrill of the text message.

Also knowing Hillary and Bayh and Kaine have been told "No" because of valid leaks ruin it.

Also, my son today the buzz around campus were kids waiting for text messages about the VP and they lost that chance for some campus BUZZ.

Flame away because I know that Obama never makes mistakes but the text needed to come before the accurate leaks started.

The point of the text message was to find out first. Not hear it from the press.

Great Idea. Bad Implementation.

1. Unless it turns out not to be Biden, then that may be a reasonable assessment

I can see ALL the top choices having a good laugh at this!

Biden could seriously just be the distraction from the real VP choice.

Still, if this is the worst blunder his campaign makes...

And, for my money, they've been pretty good all along on the important stuff.

23. I think owning the airwaves was the intent! It worked! Do you honestly think
McNuts is not going crazy over their lack of coverage?

I happen to think the choice is Biden too, and I'm THRILLED! I was a Biden supporter fron the start, and was very disappointed when he dropped out, but he really IS the junkyard dog that Obama needs right now!

31. Not even all day long... more like ALL WEEK LONG!
It was brilliantly executed. If the story is true, the text message thing would've been fun, but these kinds of secrets are almost too huge to keep. It's always going to be something... I mean, Kerry's secret got out due to someone posting on an aeronautical forum that his plane had be repainted with the Kerry-Edwards logo, and still, the media said over and over that it was an excellent VP roll-out.

This is so exciting!!! And it still won't be "official" until the text or email comes... nothing else has been confirmed.

GOBAMA! GOBIDEN!!!!

8. ya but by waiting he is
giving the faux news crowed painfully little time before the convention to tear apart his choice or..have an effect on the bounce he should get from it...

bad implementation ...maybe...but it really depends on who it actually is...and what effect Obama was going for.

10. So what if it didn't work quite as planned?
It DID allow Obama to monopolize the press for a week, and interest is at an extremely high level for a veep pick, something I haven't witnessed in my voting years.

12. I think the optimum time to flood the cell phones was AFTER he
notified Bayh and Kaine, but BEFORE that word leaked.

I think it's been flawless up until now -- I think they hung on just a little too long.

Unless it's not Biden - then he's still in control.

14. Might be Biden. Might not be.
A lot of American citizens don't follow politics they way bloggers do.

It's still several layers of surprise to most people.

And I still haven't gotten my notification.

21. Even after all I've heard today
I'm pretty much convinced you've got it pegged. I heard it was Biden from
someone I trust, but I don't know how much to trust THEIR source. I said
so, asked if anyone else had heard anything like it, and nearly got put in
front of a DU firing squad. I guess there's worse things than waiting til
tomorrow to find out!

But, it could be that something went awry; or they have other reasons for waiting.

20. If the choice is Biden, his family's safety is more important than our
political junkiehood.

If the choice is Biden and the Secret Service were not sent to his place for protection, it would be a strange and discomfiting thing.

The Obama campaign may be readying a midnight dispatch with the news, but wanted to keep Biden's people safe before the announcement.

How-many-houses-do-I-own gate is a bad thing?!?!
Obama is masterfully controlling the media and the only sound we hear in the echo chamber is the sound of McCain being out of touch.
It's called a grip...get it.

39. SO freaking what? Is this really a big problem in the scheme of things, that YOU (or me or whomever)
wasn't the absolute FIRST to know?

I wasn't naieve enough to think that I, dadsblacksheep, would be the absolute first to know, especially with the way media stalks their news stories in 2008.

This is hardly gonna matter tomorrow. In fact, it doesn't matter right now.

Big picture, people.

This was executed brilliantly. Here it is 3am...and the the media is STILL talking. Most people (ok, normal people) are sleeping, and will wake up to the thrill already delivered to their inbox.

As planned....
