And it's not completely certain that's true, btw. The Constitution says a VP has to be eligible to be president, and it says that a president can't be elected more than twice. It doesn't technically say he can't SERVE more than eight (or ten) years as president, only that he can't run again.

So, it would be up to SCOTUS to interpret that, if anyone challenged it. The only ways a someone could become president without being elected (or without having a fictitious election like Bush) would be if he were VP and the president could no longer serve, or in the really odd situation of the president-elect not being certified before being sworn in, in which case the Congress has the power to appoint someone. Sort of.

So, practically, Bush and Clinton can't serve again. But it's possible the Constitution might not forbid it.

I just like that what-if scenario. Sorry to bother you. :)
