A Freeper's FREAKISH McCain Story: "I AM LUKE SKYWALKER!!!"
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 11:12 PM by berni_mccoy
If this is true, McCain is truly a CLASS-A NUT-JOB!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1558454/posts?page=7#7

My John McCain (up close and personal) story, from the 2000 South Carolina Primary.

Greenville SC - the 2000 Presidential primary - John McCain had just beaten ‘W’ in the NH primary and the “Straight Talk Express” rolled into South Carolina.

I was a McCain supporter - positive that he was the real deal.

I drove to a McCain speech and public appearance. It was a day I will never forget as long as I live.

That day I witnessed John McCain behave unlike any appearance I had ever seen on TV - the man was unhinged.

After a 15 minute canned speech - he decided to address his competition in the primary - George W. Bush. He did so by beginning with, “I am Luke Skywalker, and my opponents are members of the Empire. Together we will form the rebellion and defeat Darth Vadar”. He yelled this - first pumping - his voice full of anger - his face - beet red - and his eyes - well - they were scary.

The crowd instantly went from supportive - to bewildered.

He obviously didn’t pick up on the mood change - because he went on for another 5 minutes - ranting and raving about how everyone was lying about his record - his views - and he, “wasn’t going to take it any more” (remember the movie Network).

It was surreal.

When he finished - and with the prodding of an aid - he left the stage, while we in the crowd just stood there - stunned - and honestly - completely confused.

I asked a woman next to me: “what the hell just happened?” She answered: “that man is freaking nuts!”

I came home - walked in the house - sat on the couch and just looked at the wall. I suddenly realized - the man pushed on television - was not the man at all.

I have told this story many times - to many people - and I have heard the same story told back to me by others who have seen similar John McCain episodes.

I am not given to criticize anyone lightly ladies and gentlemen.

I am sure John McCain is a good man - but listen to me - and please believe me.

JOHN MCCAIN is NOT FIT TO LEAD THIS NATION.

John McCain is unstable. John McCain is freaking nuts!

ON EDIT: IT'S FREAKING TRUE!

Here's an LA Times Article with Lindsey Graham DEFENDING McCain's Luke Skywalker Comments!
http://articles.latimes.com/2007/mar/10/opinion/oe-chait10

McCain Goes Over To The Dark Side

‘THIS IS NOT Luke Skywalker here,” said Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), discussing his friend and Senate colleague John McCain’s second run for the presidency. “This is a totally different campaign.”

Graham was looking for a way to reassure his fellow conservatives that they no longer had anything to fear from McCain. His choice of metaphor is one of those windows into the fundamental cultural gap that separates hard-core conservatives from the rest of humanity. To most people, who think of Luke Skywalker as a hero battling an evil and immensely powerful empire, Graham’s implication would be seen as an unmitigated insult. In the world of the GOP elite, though, it’s a form of praise: No, no, don’t worry, McCain’s with the empire now.

Seven years ago, of course, McCain was likening himself in public to Luke Skywalker, waving light sabers on stage at rallies and comparing his party’s establishment to the Death Star. He would say such things as, “My party has become captive to special interests.” He would cite a bumper sticker that read “The Christian Right Is Neither.”

AND From CNN:
http://www.cnn.com/ALLPOLITICS/time/2000/01/17/bush.html

McCain is suing over the procedural hurdles he faces trying to get on the ballot for the March primary. "I am Luke Skywalker headed out from the Death Star," McCain told reporters last week. "I see the opening, and I see all the things being fired at us and the explosions all around us."

18. The fact that McLoon totally reinvented himself in the span of just a few years
should be enough to scare anybody away from him, Dem OR Repub.

One day he is against "Darth Vader of the Evil Empire" and then some years later he is bear hugging most of the members of that Empire.

6. I dunno - my first thought is why would a freep support McCain in 2000?
After all, that was when he was supposed to be at his "Straight Talk Express" apex.

"Straight Talk" doesn't seem like a slogan that would attract a freep.

There has to be a video of this somewhere, and thanks to the advice of the freepers people are going to search it down and make sure it gets seen.

Thank you Free Republic, you are going to help us defeat John McCain and make Barack Obama the next President!

26. Yeah, the freeps have hated McCain for a long time.
They used to call for his assassination on a regular basis over at freepland. Something about McCain's betrayal of MIA in Vietnam. It's hard to tell what the freeps are trying to say - the spittle sort of clogs up their words - but that's the impression I got years ago.

9. What's scary is that McCain has most likely...T
...deteriorated since he was doing Star Wars dinner theater.

He's probably moonbat outer limits by now.

He was a bit more polished and articulate back then. If he was
this nutty back then--while hiding it well, we should all be
scared because he doesn't hide his nuttiness now.

It's very obvious.

I guess scientists finally found the right combination of meds to shut down the Luke twin.

I think McLoon should have a piss test.

32. It must surface. All we need to do is locate the local news stations that
may have covered that event. They've got it on archive.

Then email the General Manager and everyone at the news station to leak it onto the net.

Special Event
Sen. John McCain Makes Stump Speech, Answers Questions in California
Aired March 1, 2000 - 11:20 a.m. ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

(LAUGHTER)

And you know, and you think to yourself, isn't this bizarre and isn't it funny, but the fact is that the government has to have revenues, and if the -- if the special interests and the tax breaks don't pay it, then guess who does, guess who does? The people without a voice in Washington these days. So, I want to reform these institution of government, but what I -- the point I'm making here is that we can't reform these institutions unless we break the iron triangle in Washington of lobbying, big money and legislation that has taken the government away from you. I am committed to breaking that iron triangle. And by the way, that Iron Triangle and establishment is intent on breaking me. Listen, we're Luke Skywalker going out of the Death Star, they're getting at us from all sides, and we're going to win, and we're going to prevail, and that is what this thing is all about. I'm telling you, this is what this campaign is all about.

end snip

Save it and keep looking for more DUer's.

"...I have heard the same story told back to me by others who have seen similar John McCain episodes.

Perhaps he might have another episode this cycle? Would it be too much to ask?

Maybe he will get to be JarJar McBinks this time around...

McPTSD blew a gasket, OBVIOUSLY.

I hope more L$M outlets pick up on some of these past gaffes..."Luke McSkywalker" would be TOAST. The USA had obviously unstable Presidents in 1984, 1990 and 2003...does the USA REALLY need another SO BADLY?

22. Here's another article about it:
http://archive.salon.com/politics2000/feature/2000/02/06/gop/index.html

Outside, to a crush of reporters and supporters (a few of whom responded with a heartfelt "May the force be with you"), McCain said, "Remember that the establishment is against us. This is an insurgency campaign and I'm Luke Skywalker." And in McCain's "Star Wars" metaphor, he leaves little doubt who he sees as the tyrannical Death Star: the Republican Party establishment so far devoted to George W. Bush.

I'll pay DUers to dress in Star Wars costumes and go to a McCain event. Must have pictures and/or video of it. :D

29. "I am Luke Skywalker!"
McCain used the same image in a press conference about three
weeks ago. In the middle of whatever he wasn't answering, he
interrupted himself to announce that Obama had challenged him
to a duel, and that he (McCain) had chosen light sabers as the
weapons. They he gave a deranged little giggle. I was hoping
at the time that somebody was rolling tape on it!
