What is up with the Acura commercial?
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 03:51 PM by Skwmom
Has anyone seen the Acura commercial where they have a song which seems to say John McCain, John McCain ... (maybe vote John McCain). I've heard it multiple times and keep trying to figure out what it says, but that's what it sounds like to me.

Even if they are saying something else, it seems the intention might have been to make it a pro John McCain ad. And if so, wouldn't this violate some campaign finance law?

5. Here is one but it's not the one I've seen but it has the song in it.
But in the commercial I've seen they only run the music at the beginning and end and I always find myself saying that sounds like John McCain. The commercial, however, is a lot better than the one on YouTube.

Hasn't someone else seen the commercial I'm talking about? It's been on multiple times in VA.

17. Somebody on YouTube posted a vid calling it
'Let the Drama Kid Die.'

If they're talking about a lot of emo bands, I'm in full agreement. :)

7. Here's the ad.
They're not saying 'John McCain.'

They're saying 'Let the drummer kick that.' It's a song by Citizen Cope.

10. I always wondered what the words were---I never thought it said "John McCain"

It sounded more to me like "let the drama kid..." What the OP is describing is a form of audio pareidolia. That's when we create a meaningful pattern of sounds out of sounds that sound like gibberish.

12. Audio pareidolia, eh?
That's what I do when I'm listening to death metal. I didn't know it had a name. Thanks!

18. I was pleased to find there was a name for it
I just learned about it from a newsletter on the English language that I get regularly (called "The Harmless Drudge" if you're interested in that kind of thing).

13. The one I've seen has the music loud at the beginning and end and more driving action (I think).
Even my kid thinks it sounds like "John McCain." Even if the words aren't John McCain, if that is what it sounds like, what's the difference?

16. Hell, I dunno.
But I seriously doubt that Citizen Cope is a McCainiac.

23. Not Citizen Cope but the corporation that paid for the ad and the ad company that put it together, I
would not seriously doubt that.

Also, maybe they sped up the track to make the words sound like John McCain, which they clearly do.
