Dick Cheney's Gift to Democrats: the Death of a Wedge Issue
From Daily Kos:

Is this part of "moving to the center"? Doesn't seem that way, since Cheney clearly contrasts his position with that of Rove's Bush's.
This seems to be a gift to opponents of state-based initiatives to ban gay marriage or civil unions, as well as at risk Dems in conservative districts. Asked about the issue, the answer is simple: "I agree with Vice President Cheney that freedem means freedom from everyone."

It's nice to use that word -- "freedom" -- for something other than hollow militaristic jingoism.

5. But it was being used to galvanize the religious right
Rove believes that without them, they are toast already.

2. This not really a gift. The gay bashing has really hurt them.
and I am sure their internal polling is showing that.

3. Absolutely
This would never have "slipped" if the numbers weren't first.

4. No, no - it's the kinder, gentler Dick Cheney, showing his human side!
You see, with a lesbian daughter, he really cares about and feels strongly about gay rights and . . .

Oh, who the fuck am I kidding - PANDER :puke: ALERT!!!!!!!

7. And people accuse Kerry of not saying what he believes...
Maybe this will force some religious wingnuts to stay home on November 2nd.

8. It's actually a double-gift.
If we can taunt the religious reich with this, we might be able to get 1 or 2% of them to stay home instead of voting. That might be the margin of victory for us..
