I've never encountered a "McCain Supporter". Have you?

Oh sure, I've seen plenty of folks who are going to vote for that silly old bastard, but I've never seen anyone who has anything nice to say about him. Even McCain's own website is mostly devoted to bashing Sen Obama, yet strangely silent about why anyone should support him.

It's weird. Nobody has anything positive to say about John McCain, except that he was a POW. That's it. How did this guy secure the GOP nomination? Nobody really likes him. Even Fucko Limbaugh rips on the guy every day. They don't want him to win; they just want the (D) to lose. That's all they can offer to any debate regarding the upcoming general election.

Why hasn't anyone hipped me to the wonderful world of John McCain? Perhaps, they're just going to vote AGAINST the marxist, socialist, young, inexperienced, muslin, black separatist, christian, fit, intelligent, elitist nigger. (before anyone gets upset, I used a word that I hate and have gotten into fistfights over)

Yesterday, my friend's roommate was telling me he was reluctant to vote for John McCain, despite having voted for George Bush twice. McCain is in a bit of a bind, though. The evangelicals will have a really hard time voting for a Mormon (especially since they are luke warm on McCain, at best). The non-evangelical republibots seem to want him ("he's a master of economics and will keep our taxes low!!!")

What to do, McCain? What to do?

My parents may end up voting Republican no matter who is in the number 2 spot, though, simply because they fully believe that Obama is essentially a communist, or at least a socialist. My dad was throwing direct quotes from an afternoon right-wing radio program at me.

I'll do my very best to at least keep them from voting for McCain. Getting them to vote for Obama may be impossible.

I have a Mexican brother-in-law and a Chinese wife, and my parents have wonderful relationships with everyone, including their mixed-race grandkids.

They live in a very Republican area, however, and it's almost a cultural thing for them to vote for the "conservative" candidate.

They really are convinced their taxes will go way up under Obama, and that he'll pave the way towards a socialist future.

I've tried arguing politics with them but it gets pretty ugly...pretty quickly. We get along quite swimmingly when discussing *anything* else.

I did see my first McCain bumpersticker on a Corrola driven by a 20 year woman (aprox).

I heard tell of another on SUV out in the land of Republican rich assholes.

There are also less ballot initiatives for consideration to mobilize the RW. I think if we can turn out then we win. The enthusiasm gap is clear. Usually, in Kentucky you are usually counting the different kinds of signs, not asking people if they've even seen one.
Maybe they will show up in strength for McCain but they don't seem to be the least bit happy about it.

It may be best to concentrate on removing the "moderate" myth from McCain, to remove him as a fall back candidate in the minds of the fence sitter types.
This might reassure a few, but rightwingers are a bitter lot, and are hard to deal with if they lose trust. Framing McCain as right winger probably nets us the most votes. Some people (like Fiorina) think McCain is pro-choice, for example.
Moderates cannot be allowed to think "McCain's not bad".

People declare McCain a moderate but seldom, if ever can describe stances he has (supposedly, right now).
