Statement from the Obama and Clinton Press Offices

August 14, 2008

Since June, Senators Obama and Clinton have been working together to ensure a Democratic victory this November. They are both committed to winning back the White House and to to ensuring that the voices of all 35 million people who participated in this historic primary election are respected and heard in Denver. To honor and celebrate these voices and votes, both Senator Obama’s and Senator Clinton’s names will be placed in nomination.

“I am convinced that honoring Senator Clinton’s historic campaign in this way will help us celebrate this defining moment in our history and bring the party together in a strong united fashion,” said Senator Barack Obama.

Senator Obama’s campaign encouraged Senator Clinton’s name to be placed in nomination as a show of unity and in recognition of the historic race she ran and the fact that she was the first woman to compete in all of our nation’s primary contests.

“With every voice heard and the Party strongly united, we will elect Senator Obama President of the United States and put our nation on the path to peace and prosperity once again,” said Senator Hillary Clinton.

Senator Obama and Senator Clinton are looking forward to a convention unified behind Barack Obama as the Party’s nominee and to victory this fall for America.

Can we please just FINALLY give it a rest and work together?

on edit: I have no desire to fight, argue, snark, rehash, etc. I posted this because the division on here needs to stop or all is lost. If you believe in Obama, then you believe this statement.

Edited on Thu Aug-14-08 12:16 PM by Whisp
it was founded by Hillary supporters who believe that Obama cheated during the primary, that she lost because of Sexism, and that she lost because of Florida and Michigan.

basically, it was all someone's else fault and not her poor campaigning that she lost.

oh, and they're mad too because Obama isn't picking up the tab for Penn's donuts and the Hillocopter bills early in the primary when the Clintons thought they had it in the bag and spent like czars

5. It originally stood for "Party Unity My Ass".
They have since become PC and changed it to something else. This is a group of diehard Hillary supporters who want her to fight for the nomination and who refuse to vote for Obama in November.

You do know Hillary endorsed Obama right? And she campaigned for him? And fundraised for him?

Oh, and Bill's on board too. He'll be at the Convention, sorry he couldn't make it till then...he's in Africa doing more to help the world than any of us may ever get the chance to.

14. Because they could not simply accept they lost, make their speeches
and unite behind Obama. "Catharsis" yeah, right. If they were gracious, they would have forcefully, both privately and publicly, refused to support a nomination from the floor. They know this is an election where tradition should not count and there should be one nominee and ONE nominee only.

You already know this as well as I do. Difference is some want this dis-unity, promote it and applaud it, sadly.

It's to celebrate and honor her campaign.

And according to Obama, he's taking credit for it saying it'll unify the party.

43. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard
This party unity thing is fucking stupid.

Look, I don't know if people understand this but there are a lot of Dem voters who have had to vote for candidates they don't agree with. Clinton and his "end welfare as we know it" and now it looks like Obama who claims not to take money from corporations (which clearly isn't true). A lot of folks have had to suck it up in the name of "party unity" and vote for a lot of turkeys who they can't stomach.

As I'm seeing it. There is an old guard of voters in this party that have gottent their way for a very long time. Mainly with triangulating candidates and Wall Street candidates who they scream everyone should support in the name of party unity. And for years many folks have supported these people.

Looks like now the worm is turning and the shoe is on the other foot. Personally I think Hillary may be the smartest choice for VP in terms of draw. But Obama is a different kind of candidate and someone a lot of none voters seem to gravitate toward.. The non voter is a demographic a lot of people have been encouraging this party to go after for years instead of the same old Republican grub.

Maybe the people who want "Party unity" should do what Obama voters have been doing for years. SUCK IT UP!!!!
