Saakashvili mistakenly tells Georgians US moving in to take control of air and seaports...
Oh Boy

Wouldn't want to think we've got ourselves tied up with a loose canon in the President of Georgia.

President Saakashvili today told Georgians that the US military was moving in to take over control of the country's air and seaports -- which would be a pretty big deal since much of the country still appears to be an active war zone.

And about five minutes later the Pentagon said he didn't know what he was talking about.

"We are not looking to, nor do we need to, take control of any air or seaports to conduct this mission," said Geoff Morrell, Pentagon press secretary. "The role of the U.S. military is strictly to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the victims of this conflict."

John McCain says he's talking to Saakashvili every day. What's he telling him? Is he confusing the situation?

2. apparently the Pentagon didn't tell him to keep it a secret
It sounds as if it may be more true than the Pentagon wants to admit.

4. We have military aircraft and personnel flying into the region, we have an Armada on the way there.
The reality is the US is moving major military assets into the area.

Which is more likely, that he blurted out something that is true, which the US didn't want him to say, or he was simply badly mistaken? This guys looks and sounds like he might have been told he would get major support. This entire dust up is looking more and more like it was set in motion by nefarious forces here.

5. Wouldn't we be stupid to deny it and then do it?
Edited on Thu Aug-14-08 07:34 AM by dkf
The denials came straight from the Pentagon.

I highly doubt we could hide something like this.

6. Look at who our CiC is....
And then ask that again. Nothing would surprise me at this point. Hubby and I were already talking about three days ago, that this is the perfect excuse for GB to take us to new "Military heights"

The one thing that made me about cry is that my husband, my sweetheart, hit the table with his hand and said "It took a republican president to get us out of the cold war, now a republican is taking us back in!"

Please keep in mind that hubby and I are converts, it's horrifying and disheartening each time you learn another thing new that proves without a shadow of a doubt that you were wrong. Many of the converts I know right now- some to indy some to dem- are beating themselves with no lightening up.

Hubby is of the firm opinion that if we get involved in any way with the Georgia conflict, it will set the wheels for WWIII.

At least one good thing will come out of all of this (converts) there will be more Dems and Indy's in our nation than ever before.

/sigh

The Russian version of the betrayal theme is that Saakashvili "was forced to start this war by Dick Cheney to support the campaign of John McCain. The only possibility for John McCain to win is to have some kind of war." That is the view of Sergei Markov, Director of the Institute of Political Studies in Moscow, and undoubtedly it is an opinion widely held in Russia.

15. It is now clear they put the president of Georgia up to fomenting trouble.
This is the way the GOP intends to redirect attention away from Iraq and go for their "we're good on national security" theme.

8. You've got to be kidding! They lie even when the truth would work better.
Since when does this administration and it's top military officers have any problem lying about the obvious? They do it as a matter of policy.

12. What's McCain been promising this guy?
McCain says he's been on the phone with Saakashvili every day.

Has his mouth been writing checks that the US can't cash?

and since he and McLoon are such "good friends" he's probably as prone to screwing up the script as McLoon.

Freudian slip, gaffe or in his excitement and the truth just slipped out? Good grief all the kings horses and all the kings men (+Condi)are all up in this conflict and have their filthy little paw prints on everything. It's so obvious!

This entire situation is FUBAR and a big steaming pile of bullpoo.
